Could Foster win this one , I think he has more chance than the bookies think. Late KO = 50-1+.

The fight is off. Matthews is fighting Tseveenpurev now. Foster decided he could not get down to featherweight.

Anyone know much about Tseveenpurev?

Any thoughts on how this fight will play out?

Derry got battered, the ref tried to help him out as best he could, the ref's behaviour was like something you'd see in Germany.

I didn't think Derry beat Simpson a year ago, so maybe its karma time for him tonight.

It was amazing that the referee let it continue after the third knockdown, and allowed them to clean his spat out gumshield.

3 knockdowns and a spat out gum shield usually means "game over."

That was the most disgraceful round of refereeing I have ever seen in this country.

We laugh when we saw the Braithwaite vs Hernandez cruiserweight fight where the German referee was helping out the local based Cuban but it is no better over here!

A very honest assesment by Derry afterwards - lets hope the excuses don't start to materialize because he came across as a proper man afterwards and what he said was true - he was beaten by the better man!

Well done Choi - I never saw that coming either! :TU:

Wasn't game over when Corrales spat out the gum shield, he was just trying pro tatics like timing getting up from a knockdown right but Choi's power got him eventually.

I like lenient refereeing, so I didn't have a problem with the ref letting it go on. The gumshield situation happens quite a lot, so that was not especially unfair to Tseveenpurev.

But the constant warnings to both fighters when Matthews was gone was as bad as the Gum shield incident.

The third KD in the third round felt very long.

Fair point- But in a British ring the referee is typically quick to stop a fight, rather than being lenient, letting it go on etc.

The question- would the referee have allowed that fight to go on if it was the "away" fighter who had gone down for a third time?

Exactly! :TU:

I thought British referreeing had took a turn for the better the day the odious Paul Thomas retired.

It doesn't seem to be the case!

He most likely would have stopped it if it was the other way around. But, as that never happened I am not going to criticize the referee for being lenient to the home fighter.

Perhaps, I am used to the home fighter getting "special" treatment from the refs, so I don't really pay much attention or get suprised by it anymore.

that post is completely spot on likewise Don1.

i was shouting at the tele while Paris was fcking about (think it was Dave Paris anyway.......if not then sorry Dave Paris!)

i said last month on another thread Choi was one tough muther but even I never thought he'd do this. This man has sparred round after round with Michael Hunter who is hard as coffin nails in Hunter's various title preparations. They wouldn't have kept hiring him for the job if he wasn't giving as good as he was getting.

Derry Matthews was a gentleman in defeat, such a magnamamous attitude admitting he got beat by the better man. Cos let's be honest Matthews can fight a bit too.......I actually think Matthews can take some positives from this experience into future bouts as stupid as it might sound.

Nothing against Matthews but am pleased for Choi.....he's been avoided more than the bloody plague......it might not be one of the major World titles but when you live in England and are barred from boxing for most titles in this neck of the woods it must feel like a proper world title.

Disappointed with the refereeing it was shocking, i thought Matthews would be saved by his own corner as the ref sure as fck wasn't going to stop that til Matthews head was removed from the rest of him and then I think he'd have got an 8 count. I like lenient reffing too as many a time a fighter comes back and wins handsomely but Derry Matthews was out of there on several occasions and could have got badly hurt.......in fact he even went down from a left that got completely IGNORED and I though he put BOTH his gloves on the canvas in round 2 or 3 and stood back up and that got ignored too. Embarrassing.

yeah shocking refereeing......
absoloutely awful, as i said on another post, Matthews was getting 20 seconds recovery....

and they made comments about Limond beating Choi, that was by one point on a scottish show..... now i never saw the fight but generally winning by one point in your home town against an unattractive foreign import means you lost...

Choi isn't exactly a foreign import. He has lived in England now for about 7 years. I think "import" is generally used to mean fighters who are just brought in for that specific fight, who live and work in a foreign country.

Im suprised Derry didnt get a deduction for turning away constantly.

When i saw the number of chances he got i thought Choi was in for a bit of daylight robbery but thankfully the better man won.

Fair play to Derry who was honourable in defeat.

whatever, you know what i mean... he is hardly going to get the referee on his side fighting as an opponent in scotland against a scottish fighter, was the point i was making....

or do you disagree??

I see what you mean- I just thought it was best to make that point. A lot of people seem to be under the impression that Choi was just brought in for the bout, but no- he is a locally based fighter.

....

I've just seen video footage- after the 5th knockdown Matthews was rolling on the floor with his gumshield out, clearly the ref should have stopped it rather than doing a full ten count.

yeah no probs, i see what your saying...

the 2nd round when Matthews is face down till the 8 count was pretty bad too.... normally if you arent moving by 8 the ref will stop it...

bollox to the big ass reputation I've reffed on tele loads I'm the dog's bollox..........what is the man a physician?? a general practitioner? a doctor? NO.....Derry Matthews was busted right up, it's just thankful he seemed okay when interviewed.
