Eubanks tips Hopkins !!

From 7DAYS in Dubai-

"I`ll go with Hopkins, for the simple fact that Joe Calzaghe is due a loss. I`m sure this Hopkins will want to be known and remembered as a legend in the business, and the one person who can define that for him is Joe Calzaghe.

"I won`t have Joe retiring unbeaten - it doesn`t work like that."

BHops gameplan ?

"Hopkins would need to hit the body hard for five rounds. But Calzaghe is so, so awkward."

Says dubai waiting for boom

"Dubai is the future of boxing - we make Vegas look like Pigeon Forge. We`ve got the biggest hotels in the world here; thus the biggest casinos and excellent exchange rates.

"I`m proud I was the one who set the ball rolling all those years ago, and it`s only waiting to accelerate."

When he dipped his hand in promotin briefly-

"I never made a dime from my promotion at The Aviation Club. It was a mistake in having no contracts with Shiek Hamdan, who had appointed Merser Al Fayegh to help coordinate the promotion.

"Al Fayegh did little but knock back brandys - that I was paying for - like they were orange juice. I still haven`t been able to search him down.

"People knew we were promoting in the dark and I hold my hand up in admitting that I was wrong. Eleven years on, I continue to wait patiently for my financial ruminants.

"Anyway, it was a exhausting promotion. Apart from promoting the fight, I had to acclimatise, train, avoid illness, pay for flights for all the fighters, trainers, doctors, matchmakers and British Boxing Board of Control officials; pay for hotels for all the fighters, trainers, doctors, matchmakers and British Boxing Board of Control officials; pay for food for all the fighters, trainers, doctors, matchmakers and British Boxing Board of Control officials, and pay all the fighters, trainers, doctors, matchmakers and British Board of Control officials.

"It was history in the making - this was the first ever professional boxing match in the country. The objective was to entertain the underprivileged."

(Warren ??)
"It`s a traditionally dirty business. A London promoter still owes me £800 from February 1989 over a television rights deal. He broke a promise. So I vowed never to work with this particular promoter again, and never did.

"Ignorance can insult, too. As hard as my manager Barry Hearn tried, he couldn`t convince American-TV that I`d do any better than Nigel Benn`s earlier victims. So Eubank-Benn one wasn`t screened on American television, and so I vowed never to sign with American-TV, and never did."

"I`m a victim. When I sold my house in England and the land next door, I thought I made a killing. The person I sold it to then resold it to developers that are now putting flats and houses on the land for around 10 - 15 times more than I got."
(lmfao)

ON MAYWEATHER
"He is the only fighter I`d go out of my way to watch. He has the most artistic edge about his work."

BHOPs could win but not by working the body, he'd need to be elusive and when Joe comes in open as he inevitably does throw the straight right counter followed by roughousing on the inside with the customary lunging head and hip punch. BHOps aso does fantastically well against southpaws

Calazage is the rightful favourate but perhaps Bernard could pull the upset

Eubank is an idiot. He really is.

Lol, he's just an idiot.

The £800 he say's he is owed relates to his fight with Anthony Logan and the alledged Promoter he say's, and to be fair to him he has said for nearly 20 years, is Frank Maloney.

Maloney promoted Benn V Chilambe on ITV Midweek Sports Special and Eubank fought Logan on the undercard. Maloney guaranteed a purse and stated that if Eubank's fight went on ITV due to Benn going short, he would get an addtional £800. Benn went short and Eubank beat Logan on ITV but he say's he never got paid the extra £800. He vowed never to work with Maloney again and he never did on principal. Even when Maloney was offering decent money, and Eubank could have done with it, for him to face Crawford Ashley, Eubank was not interested regardless of the purse "until I get my £800 that is owed" - He has never forgotten it and it's not about the money, bearing in mind he's squandered Millions and £800 is a small sum in comparison, this is purely a matter of principle with him.

In fact, Warren as you suggest is the only one who paid him exactly what he asked for, up front and on the nose and even in his words his great friend Barry Hearn, if you read his book, appears to owe him money from his 'world tour'.

Eubank is an odd ball agreed but he is definately a man of great principle and you only screw him once and he never forgets.

interesting, but i'm sure maloney has his take on it. probably maloney meant live? i'm sure benn fights were live on the saturday with that geezer with the tash and repeated in the mid-week with nick owen? and on the saturday, the undercard fights that had already happened were shown after the live main event, if you get me.

eubank had a better respect for warren than he had for duff, after seeing them both when he was about 21, i know that for fact. but he thought warren was too stubbornish and mind gameish to work with, and how two stubbornishes don't mix, though he did at the end of his career obviously.

what a muppet if he made zero money from those pointless middle eastern adventures. i remember sky, itv and bbc all turned him down, weren't interested! think the fights were on eurosport, though not live. he did have 20,000 muslims watching him in those fights though, and the front row seats were like luxury armchairs.

maloney offered eubank 100 grand (edited: 150 grand) to fight montell griffin at the albert hall after his second collins loss. it was up front, december date that would propel him right to wbc and wbo no.1 contender at light heavy. i know that.

For what it's worth. Charlie Magri said in his book that Warren was the only man he dealt with (he only dealt with two though), that offered him what he wanted, and paid him on the nose without any bollox.

  As someone who lived in Dubai for nearly seven years until returning to the UK two years ago I can guarantee this is absolute nonsense.
For starters, while there are some incredible hotels there, they're not larger than those in Vegas and most certainly don't contain anything remotely resembling a casino (remember it's a muslim country).
There is little in the way of mass market appetite for boxing either - Eubank's own show had a pitiful attendance and that largely comprised British navy on shore leave.
The only thing Dubai brings to the table is the petro-dollars and the will to be perceived as a sporting 'capital', hence developments like Dubai Sports City. Given this, I wouldn't be surprised to see a 'one-off' bout staged there akin to previous 'world tours' like the 'Thrilla in Manilla' and the 'Rumble in the Jungle', but the idea that it is somehow going to usurp Vegas/the States as the 'home' of big-time boxing is nonsense.
Eubank is just promoting Eubank :TU:

i've got charlie magri on itv commentary on eubank's fight with simon collins, which was chief support to errol christie-james cook at york hall on a keith miles promotion, and magri thought benn would take eubank's head off. it was interesting. he also said benn would have beaten simon collins in one round and how eubank needed four. it was very anti-eubank, saying how he had his hands too low to get anywhere in boxing.

what's 'pigeon forge', btw?

Charlie would have hated Eubank at the time. He's not one for flash harry fighters.

'Shown on ITV means 'shown on ITV' Benn wasn't live either that night.

This £800 has grated Eubank for years so it must be true or would he beat himself up about it - thi si a guy who earned over £15M. Maloney did make an offer for Eubank V Griffin but it was turned down flat for three reasons £100k for Eubank was derisory (Griffin, as I recall had just beaten RJJ) , he was talking to Warren, via a third party, and Maloney had no chance anyway because of the infamous £800 which incidentally, he still hasn't paid!

Charlie disliked Eubank because he jealous of anyone who pissed on his parade. Magri was not involved with Eubank when he was training at Matchroom wirth Darkie Smith and Ronnie Davies and this annoyed him.

it was sept 95 maloney made the griffin offer, 150k it was. if eubank won he'd be wbc and wbo no.1 contender at light heavy, right back in the thick of things. but then the jimmy murray tragedy happened and eubank announced his 'retirement' the next day.

More of Eubank's principle:
After my fifth professional fight in Atlantic City, an American promoter tried poaching me away from my manager and mentor Adonis Torres, who had really looked out for me back in my early days in New York, and I turned him down. When Adonis died later that year, I didn't go searching for this promoter.

After Benn II, I chose Barry over Don King and the bright lights, because Barry was a special man for me. When I was living in a £15-a-week Brighton bedsit, he was the only one who was willing to give me what I was worth, and he was obviously a good judge, wasn't he?

The James Murray incident made him think about retiring but it was a knee-jerk reaction which he almost instantly regretted. Eubank didn't need #1 contender status as his drawing power and TV backing made him attractive for these titles anyway so that wasn't that important. The offer £100k not £150k and nor was it inclusive of the £800 he was owed. Panos Eliades, via Maloney, made much bigger offers to Eubank for Crawford Ashley but he had no chance of ever getting him to work with him.

chris had no tv backing after the second collins loss, seriously! sky, itv and bbc all turned him down when he wanted to comeback, or offered measley money.

You're wrong I can assure you. Eubank, even after losing delivered ratings for TV companies. Sure the money went down but was still good. Eubank was getting massive paydays for his fights prior to Collins 1 and made more for Collins 2 becasue Warren won the purse offer. He earned more for Calzaghe and the two Thompson bouts than Watson 1 and 2 and Collins 1. These are the facts.

Finally, we agree Andy.

If B-Hop goes to the body, with Joe's speed he'll pick him off all night. Joe may slow down in the later rounds, I'm not sure he's been tested to the body (or even whether Bernie is a decent body puncher nowadays).

This will be close, some seem to think JC will dominate from start to finish. Hopkins will win 4 or 5 rounds and JC will win on workrate IMO.

BHop will probably land the crisper shots..as someone mentioned

It's in the bag for Joe then, ex opponents usually get it wrong in the big fight picks, much like Thompson and co all picking Enzo over Haye.

I think Joe will dominate, but the judges will score it closer than it actually is (remember, it's Nevada). As long as Smith, Lederman or Moretti aren't judging I'll be happy.

I'm expecting either a SD, or a 2 point win for Joe on the scorecards.

Cobblers. In Nevada, judges tend to favour aggression, and Joe will be the aggressor throughout.

Joe will win by 2 or 3 rounds although i wouldn't be surprised if the judges get it wrong and give hopkins the decision or a dodgy draw
