Romanov for me, should be a good fight but I don't give Jonno too much of a shot. Think this will to the Romanov of the Vanzie and Murray fights not the one who imo scrapped a decision against an Earl we hadn't seen before or since.

Thaxton didn't look great against Stewart and even appeared hurt at times, it doesn't look good for him. I think he'll have to improve on his Meager performance which is the best i've seen from him recently

i want thaxton to win to set up a good scrap between khan (as long as he doesnt put a stupid £££ request in) - it coulndt be ignored

but......... he has looked shite in his last 2/3 bouts, so i cant see him pulling it off

wish i hadnt c/x my skysports now, just for this fight

I didn't think he looked hurt against Stewart, but he did struggle against his speed. Thaxton was always landing the cleaner harder blows, and really busted Stewart up over the course.

The question is whether he can hit often enough and with enough force against Romanov to win. It seems a hard task.

A better title for this thread would be 'is ANYONE picking Thaxton to get lucky?'.

I'll be there in the flesh to observe how Romanov takes Thaxton out.

Hurts probably a bit strong but certainly looked stunned a couple of times from where I was sitting. Thaxton did wear him down but the fight was close going into the 12th, hence the strong finish from Thaxton.

Might try and make it down for this one, Herdman is on the bill isn't he?

I'm looking at the Meager fight as the guide, where Thaxton boxed smart and won by a street.

I think he went into the Stewart fight a bit wild, looking to get rid of him early. My impression was that he thought Stewart could not hurt him and would fold under pressure. Same could be said of the Lawton fight.
However Stewart fought a good fight, countering Thaxton's lunges with stiff (and in my opinion, the cleaner) shots.
Rather than a strong finish from Thaxton, Stewart was more or less out of steam going into the eleventh. When he did finally go down it was more from exhaustion than the effect of the blows.

Thaxton will not be making the same mistake in this one. Thaxton narrow pts.

Romanov is in a differant legue Stewart and Meager, Cant see it going points Romanov within 8 rounds.

Romanov in 7 one-sided rounds.

Romanov in 7 then Khan will find the balls to fight a finished Thaxton.

Romanov somewhere around the 9th or 10th after a gutsy display by Thaxton in a real war .

I can't see past a Romanov win but I hope I'm wrong.

I think Thaxton is better than the Stewart fight, but Romanov is also better than the Stewart result.

I give Thaxon a shot, because Romanov isn't the cutest from what I've seen. Thaxton is a big tough guy, has a hell of a lot of heart, can bang himself, and really really needs this fight.

I think Thaxton may be slightly outclassed in the mid rounds, but he is going to give it all he has over the final third if he knows he's behind.

To that end, I pick Thaxton points, with a side bet on Romanov on rounds 9-12. I can see a courageous Thaxton bringing the fight to Romanov and getting stopped.

The odds aren't too great on Romanov to win or points, it's not really worth a bet to me.

Head says Romanov by points or late stoppage. Unless he overwhelms Thaxton early, don't think he'll stop him inside of six, but inside of eight seems quite possible.

Really hope Jono does this, but Romanov is a young ambitious guy and has nearly ten years on John.

Reckon this could be a cracking fight if Thaxton makes it past the sixth.

Tough call - I thought at the time that he had been bdly hurt but I suspect he just took a few decent shots that looked quite flashy. Having said that, I think Jon is about to get quite badly hurt...

Such a tough fight for Thaxton, unlike Khan's set up. Looks like he'll have to really go something to beat Romanov, but I can see Jon getting busted up and stopped late.

Shame if that happens, as it'll let Khan off the hook.

I see Thaxton getting stopped unfortunately. But he will try his best - with age and injuries and immense pride and grit - and he will go out in a blaze of glory. He will take on someone considered a level above him, which is rare in British boxing. I honestly think Thaxton's marvellous little run will be over and that he'll lose his British title to Meager afterward.
