Anthony 'Million Dollar' Crolla

What the eff happened to Crolla tonight?

Was his fight televised? I didnt see it.

Arnie - whats the story?

'crasshing dashing kid' usually has something to say where Crolla is concerned..

Big upset in my eyes; I thought Crolla was going places - over 8 rnds I would have thought he would have had the edge over the Chris Aston trained Syrian.

Any updates?

It was on ITV4, he was just pressured and just wasn't as natural a fighter as his opponent. He wasn't as strong or fit and didn't have enough on his shots to keep the other man off. He was also left hand reliant.

I fcked up! The fight was on early, live, and was replayed as full hightlights on ITV. Without realising it was on ITV 3 I posted the result about 2 minutes before the highlights finished!

Good win for Al Hamdi, he really tried hard- an underrated fighter IMO.

Agree 100%

Arnie didn't appear too happy with the decision, but from what I saw, the other guy looked a worthy winner.

I have just spoke to Arnie Farnell because I was extremely surprised by this defeat of Anthony, some of my conversation went like this:
Spud: What went wrong with Anthony Crolla last night?

Arnie: I don't want to be one of those people who offers excuse after excuse, Anthony got beaten, but what has left me confused was that wasn't the same Anthony Crolla boxing in the ring last night who has done so well in training.

From a very early stage I knew it was going to be a very hard nights work because I was only seeing a 30% Anthony in the ring. Sometimes when a fighter loses like this you then see what he is made of and you will also see whether he really has what it takes to come back from a dissapointment - all fighters go through them and its how they deal with them, is a true test of a fighters metal and determination.

Spud Was he ill or did he complain not being right?

Arnie Again, I am not going to offer silly excuses, I am gutted because my fighter has lost his unbeaten record, we are going to sit down review what went wrong, training and then we are going to bounce back. Anthony Crolla is a good fighter - people may not realise but Anthony has sparred with Youssef about 2 or 3 times before - whilst we thought it was going to be a good test, Anthony has done very well in my view in the spars they have had together, Anthony knew that Youssef has a decent punch but at the sametime it is a fight we should have won.

Like I say, Anthony is a good fighter, something has clearly gone wrong and I will get to the bottom of it and like I say we will bounce back from this, it is a blip which Anthony will get over.

Spud I see Tony Bellew boxed last night, what did you make of his performance?

Arnie I was really pleased, Tony is another fighter who has trained so well. I was pleased he did well but Tony realises now he cannot go into a fight looking to knock everyone out. He is a good fighter and he will do well, the Bonson fight was a good learning fight for him.

Spud Good luck Arnie and thanks for the chat

Nice to read that.... although I don't think it was quite in view - Rawling said that Farnell was giving some abuse to the ref when he made his decision.

Glad he is now honest enough to see he lost fair and square.

Wasnt abuse realy Arnie was just asking the Ref on what basis hed made his decision.

Whilst I am heavily biaised because I regard Anthony Farnell as a pal - I also admire his straight forwardness and honesty - naturally I did not relay all what was said between us - Arnie was mightly p*ssed off his fighter lost - but there is no knee jerk reaction - Arnie remains convinced he has the makings of a good stable of boxers - He remains convinced if Crolla gets his training right then he will make it - what I mean by that is that Crolla trained very very hard for the fight - but what Arnie wants to do is review the type of training ie the length of runs, the time in the gym etc etc and then he remains convinced Crolla will do the business.

Million dollar Crolla looked more like a tatty old fiver last night....sorry crappy line but its true.

Being blunt i was very disappointed in Crolla last night after people had been raving about him being the next British star. He just couldn't handle the lateral movement and raiding attacks of his opponent and was hurt a couple times aswell, most notably to the body. If his opponent had more of a dig he'd have been stopped.

Im wondering if weight making was a problem and would go some way to explaining his lethargy? Its just a theory but he had that weight drained look about him(no snap, slow and tired)

I think a lot of it is that Al-Hamidi is a very good fighter, too. His record suggests "journeyman" but he is actually a very neat boxer, his losses coming to some of Britains top level domestic fighters.

He fought Michael Hunter in a close fight that could have gone either way.

In a 13 fight career, he has fought some really good opponents- including guys coming back from title challenges, and he usually gives a good show. He put John Simpson down, for example.

A rematch may well be in order.

yes thought he looked a bit slower and lethargic than i've seen him before, maybe weght making was an issue, making the weight right can be as imortant as anything, maybe he can make the weight easy enough but this time underestimated his opponent and therefore took things less seriosly like making the weight [subconsiosly],to be fair his opponent boxed very well and probably underated,im sure the loss will hurt crolla now but longterm it can be used as experiance and he can improve and move on to better things, its not as if he took a beating, as long as he learns from it,everybody has off nights he's only human it winds me up when people say one minute your a future champ then the next min you are going nowere,im sure crolla and farnell know what went wrong, and can both come back stronger, good luck :TU:

He gave Gomez a terrible time when they fought in Wigan before the body shots started to go in.

That was a great win for Gomez, a really well fought fight and a great finish. I look forward to seeing Gomez again soon.

Not sure what you mean by this 'Arnie'? I am Damian Hughes and I am happy to post under my own name. Get one of your mates from the moderators to check IP addresses, although I don't suppose that you let the facts get in the way of your version of the truth, eh?

As you say, you're not one to make excuses after a loss. :D I'll let others pick up on the irony of that quote.

I am sorry for Crolla that he got beat. I like him a lot and think that he is a great prospect. I wish him the very best of luck.

Please don't come here looking for an agenda. I am more focused on and pleased about Michael Jennings excellent victory than anything else.

Hamidi is one of my favourite fighters. He's much better than his record suggests, moves well, takes a shot, throws plenty and is gutsy too.

Crolla looked spent and in dreamland in the last.

Good luck to Hamidi - hope he progresses from this scalp.

He never got going, looked flat and hurt in places. Nice guy, good boxer and I hope he comes back.

Arnie seemed to go over and put his hands out to ask why he'd given Youseff the decision. The next second he went over and congratulated the other corner, so it didn't seem like he was being a sore loser.

Crolla will come back. He looked woeful, had no snap in his punches. Clueless, nothing like his previous fights.

Hope Farnell can help him turn things around.
