For a little while there was the possibility of Hasim Rahman fighting Mike Tyson as he tried to get out of his old contract with his promoter and move to Don King, but it backfired and he wound up being forced to give Lewis an immediate rematch, and we all saw what happened there.

So, who do you guys think would've won had Rahman managed to fight Tyson instead after his massive upset KO over Lewis in 2001?





Personally I thought the first Rahman-Lewis fight's result was a combination of Rahman being in excellent shape and Lewis being considerably less so and getting caught with a massive shot even while winning on points. In the rematch Lewis showed he was CLEARLY the superior fighter. Thus I think Tyson would've managed to score a pretty early KO over Rahman somewhere around the 4th round with Rahman being forced to trade with Mike and getting caught with a number of blows leading to the final KO-shot.

I think Rahman would have lost by KO in the 8th or so. Tyson winning round one, but Rahman is able to jab and grab and steady things out. Tyson trying to make a brawl of it. Tyson manages to pop some big shots, loading up on everything he has. One gets through and drops Rahman.

Tyson is champion again. Who does he defend against first...

lewis? if tyson was champion would the fight of made more money?

Tyson would have made money as champ fighting his shadow.

Would he have re-matched Rahman...given Holyfield a shot...or yes Lewis a shot.

This is no contest realy, Tyson would murder Rahman at any time in his career, while he still was boxing and not just walking in looking angry and sitting down for the count, Rahman couldn't handle Maskaevs "super-power" so what eould Tyson do to him.

I disagree. I think people are forgetting how shot to pieces Tyson was by the advent of the 21st century. Sanders and Tua who Rahman both defeated (despite the bogus 'draw' in the Tua rematch and the late hit in the first fight) were as good or superior to the 2001 Tyson. Rahman's jab, fairly decent durability, and refusal to fold (like him or not he's always shown heart) would ensure probably a TKO loss sometime between rounds 7 and 10.

I think Rahman showed his heart isn't all that special in the return with Lewis. Looking up at the ref as he lay on his back, he seemed relatively clear-eyed, though he was hurt. As for his durability, one shot laid him out, which leads me to believe Tyson could do the same, if he landed --- by 2001, Tyson was a spent force. Rahman has never been anything in my book but a C-Grade fighter, but he is a big guy with a long reach, decent enough jab, & he had youth on his side at that time.

Lewis landed the hardest "one-two" of his career on Hasim. It was an incredible two punches, Rahman went stiff-legged immediately and he was 'OUT' . .

Other than the bout with Corrie Sanders, when has Rahman ever showed much in the way of heart ?

? When has he not shown it? He stood in and outboxed/punched one of the most feared punchers in the sport in Tua, he survived a war with Sanders, in both Maskaev wars he stood and was slugging it out 'till the very end. Even out of shape and fat he came back from being behind vs both Al Cole and Zuri Lawrence.

i do give Hasim more respect than anyone here, but i feel Tyson, at this point, even as shot as he was, with only the desire to get money to Clear his debts would have Won. TKO at some point around 6.

But would depend, Hasim always has a chance of winning, just depends if Tyson Shows up to Win, or shows to up to collect the Pay-Check
