AT HOME WITH THE HATTONS

Ricky and Matthew Hatton may be household names but now thanks to Sky One the family are set to be beamed into our living rooms in a ‘fly on the wall’ documentary.

Prior to Ricky’s last fight against American Floyd Mayweather, HBO Sports produced four exclusive, access all areas, programmes that followed the two fighters in their build up to the big fight.

Such was the popularity of the show Sky have come up with a similar idea, following dad Ray, mum Carole, girlfriend Jenny, and the boys as they prepare for their next big night.

The TV company has already been hard at work filming Ray and Carole as they juggle managing their son’s careers with working full-time.

Ray was delighted that his family had been asked to take part in the programme, stating: “It shows how Ricky has transcended boxing.”

The show will follow Ricky and Matthew as they prepare for the show being billed as ‘The Homecoming’ on May 24 and the two one hour episodes, of At Home with the Hatton’s, are planned for the two weeks leading up to the fight.

Unlike the version released before the Mayweather fight, the programme will not only film Ricky in his preparation for the fight, but living his life away from boxing, spending time with his family and friends.

More than 45,000 tickets were sold in little over two hours for his comeback fight in May against Juan Lazcano.

Haven't we seen enough of Hatton? He's not been out of the public gaze for years.

This is getting ridiculous and very boring.

You wouldn't see Joe Calzaghe agreeing to this nonsense, and he's respected more than the fame-seeking Hatton (being a lot more down-to-earth than Hatton), as was evident with the BBC vote.

I'd rather stick a fork in my eye than watch this tripe.

Coming up in the next episode, watch as Ray Hatton lays a new shagpile in the family home.

Have got to say - this programme is a bad idea - not a big fight so why increase the hype in it - I am more than happy to stick up for Ricky like I keep saying he is a good guy who has done an immense amount for British Boxing - I have to say I like the bloke!!! - but this programme is going to far - a load of over hyped b*llocks.

The fight is a nothing fight and should be treated as such - its a thank you to the fans - problem is the media love anything Hatton - it has got boring yet in their eyes and thus they are going to keep showing sh*t and writing as such as well.

the general level of what people will watch in this country is very, very , very.........very.....low. If there was fck all on except a programme about dogs doing a crap for example there are at least a couple million people that would tune in from start to finish........so my point is this will get viewers.

I think Ricky Hatton's showed true guts in his career and well done to anyone that can do what he's done. I wish I could print money like that. By guts I don't mean fighting Mayweather for 20 million quid......I'D FIGHT MAYWEATHER MYSELF FOR THAT........but he was showing it against the Magees and the Thaxtons etc... year's ago.

Not sure about MH getting on a TV show......i watched him a few years ago at the MEN , first on bill. There were 20,000 empty seats and about 10 people in this big old room. One was me, one was alledgedly FW, 2 were in the ring and I believe the remainder were carrying walkie talkies or mops and buckets.

That was with getting on for 20 fights to his name........maybe lots of his fans came out of the woodwork further down the line......you know, Vegas etc...

if this fight is a THANK YOU TO THE FANS does that mean that Hatton will donate his money to various charities and the like and not take home another few million.......it must do.........otherwise it would be getting billed as a fight and it's not it's getting billed as a thank you to the fans can I can only assume the ones set to profit are the TV and various charities which is commendable gesture

There's something quite interesting about this in terms of psychology. Foreman hid away after the Ali loss. You'd expect most fighters to get their heads back down in training, while trying to secure the rematch.

Hey I'm a relative newbie, lay off us!!

Few things:

In regard to keeping his head down in an attempt to secure the rematch with PBF - that's probably the whole point of the 'documentary' - the only way PBF is ever gonna get back into the ring with Hatton is if he knows that (barring DLH III) it's the biggest financial fight out there. Hatton has nothing to offer PBF in the way of a sporting challenge anymore, so if there's any dip in popularity then Hatton is never gonna make the match with PBF. What better way to reinforce that popularity than have a tv show??? Queue no credible opposition whatsoever for Hatton until the PBF fight is either dead in the water or made....

Onto the documentary. My brother was seeing Jenny Dooley for a while (obviously prior her becoming Mrs Hatton!) and from my memory she was pretty boring. What an amazing show this will be. Not only do we get to watch Hatton himself (who fair play knows how to be witty and is a decent lad) but the hangers on also get to make names for themselves. Think it's a real shame that his own mum and dad are getting in on it; always find it a bit disconcerting. I'd prefer to never know Hatton's dad's name... who's Muhammad Ali's father? Or Lennox? That's the way it should be.

I was a big Hatton fan, knew him way back on a fleeting level as his gym was at the end of my street, and was always pretty proud of him. Understood his appeal totally, and have defended him in the Witter saga on here (to a certain extent; I never truly defended him merely said 'let's wait and see') but this tips me over the edge. The tv show is a stinging indictment of his all out cash lust and disregard for boxing status. Not happy one bit, and I wonder how far this show will go to alienating some of his supporters? Inevitably the biggest fans will remain loyal, but there must be plenty like me who are starting to feel a bit shortchanged. I have a ticket for the Lazcano fight but may consider taking it back at this rate.
