Natural domestic fights that should happen.

Well we've had Maccarinelli vs Haye... any other fights that are just so "natural" that they simply must have to happen.
Here are some that I would like to see in each class.
Heavyweight.
Audley vs Pele Reid. - Two chinny fighters with age against them
Cruiserweight.
Maccarinelli vs Hide - Chinny bangers
Steeds vs Krence - Two decent fighters coming down a weight
Light Heavyweight
Oakey vs Francis. - Good British and Commonwealth affair
Super Middle.
Cannot really think of anything - Froch isn't qute there yet for Froch vs Calzaghe. Maybe Dodson vs Catley if they wanted it.
Middle
Barker vs Smith - Two fighters at similar stages
Duddy vs Macklin. - Got the Irish thing
Lockett vs Eastman - Two punchers
Elcock vs McDermmott - Got the Middles rivarly there.
Light Middle.
Pryce vs Moore - Best two in the devision for sometime
Woolcombe vs Small - Two fighters who have been exposed, but have comeback well.
Welter.
Brook vs Doherty - just seems to be a cracker
Watson vs Hatton - Got the manchester thing
Sinclair vs Magee - Irish fighters on the slide
Light Welter
Hatton vs Witter - No comment needed
Barnes vs Morrison - Decent test for Barnes.
Lightweight
Thaxton vs Earl - Two aging warriors.
Limond vs Meager - Two decent technicians at a similar level.
Fewkes vs Murray - Two good prospects.
Super Feather
Athur vs Cook - Two longstanding EBU champions
Mitchell vs Foster Jnr - At similar levels
Burns vs Gomez - Classic boxer vs puncher battle
Fehintola vs Corcorran - Two fighters clubbed by Johannesson who might think they have something left to offer
Feather
Appleby vs Simpson - Scottish affair
Matthews vs Morris - True crossroads fight.
Super Bantam
Munroe vs Dunne - Dunne is a fantastic boxer, might have a problem with punchers... Munroe isn't one. Evenly poised match
Bantam
Booth vs Power - Neither can handle Napa... so a decent match up.
Super Fly
Bell vs Robinson - Just about the only match up out there.

Great thread, problem is it's too good; think you got most of the bases covered!

Well, there might be fights that you think are more natural....maybe Duddy vs Lockett for example
I was tempted to have Rhodes vs Moore in, cause it could be argued that Moore is the most dominating British champion at Light Middle since Rhodes.

Problem with domestic fights is that if either man has promise beyond domestic level, that it usually has to happen well down the line.
I suppose concerns of putting, say, young fighters in early are founded, when you look at the miles that Danny Hunt & Lee Meager seemed to knock off each other for nothing more than an English title.
Murray-Fewkes is a rare one, then.
Here's some picks:
-(if Khan gets a world title), Khan vs Hatton, Khan vs Witter
-Khan v Lynes - good test for both. Ama credentials/speed vs solid professional schooling
-Hatton v Witter, as much a no brainer as Haye v Mac although both combatants can be ugly to watch
-Barker or Macklin - the most promising middleweights, stylistically - vs each other OR vs Jamie Moore. This is one for "somewhere down the line," i.e. for some kind of belt above domestic/Commonwealth level. More to fight for, so may as well risk it then.
-Moore v Pryce - unlikely as Moore has more than proved himself in domestic battles & deserves to move on up, but a definite exciting fight. If Moore ever wins a world title how about Pryce as a voluntary or something.
-Francis vs Woods. 10 yrs ago Woods would've been a massive underdog; now he has a world title; if he brings his IBF belt home and if Francis dissects Oakey, why not?
-Calzaghe-Woods - superfight material over here is both are light heavyweight champs after their big fights this month.

Can you imagine me and Macklin going at it again at middle? I think the police would have to be involved!! And someone would have to get the (big) chequebook out!!

Who do you think's going to win the Rhodes vs Woolcombe fight, Jamie.
Think you and Rhodes (if he wins) could have alot of intrigue.

oops, I meant Barker vs Moore or Barker v Macklin.
I don't reckon Moore-Macklin 2 would happen. Don't think it needs to happen either as Macklin was on the floor a long time & Mooresy has some bigger fish to fry.
The fight I want to see Mooresy in most of all is the Euro champ, Zaur Baysangurov, who's a bit of a beast & well schooled. Albeit, one who keeps his chin way too high and throws wide shots when he gets frustrated. I can't quite fathom Zaur yet - he fights like a cross between Kostay Tszyu and Marco "Cap'n" Huck!

How about Thaxton vs. Rees at Lightweight?

Murray V Fagan at lightweight for the Irish title. A War!

I think the natural progression at LM is for the winner of Rhodes v Woolcombe to fight Pryce for the British and Commonwealth and then for the winner of that fight to face Jamie for the British Commonweath and European - assuming Jamie gets there but I've every faith.
The last man standing must surely then be in line for a lucrative step up to World level - and no one could say they haven't gone the correct route.

I'd like to see Jamie fight Bundrage or Kamarzin next to get him some US exposure.

Bell vs Robinson - Just about the only match up out there.
Bell-McDonnell The re-match
They both met each other in December 2006, where McDonnell stopped Bell in the third round, but since then the tables have changed, Bells won 7 on the trot and is now a champion, but McDonnell has lost his last two fights and would now be the underdog. There both from Doncaster and the fight would be a sell out anywhere in Doncaster.
Also it may be worth noting that McDonnell has now finished his term with Rushton, so he is up for grabs if he still wants to box???

some more good 'uns: Joel Julio, Sergio Martinez (already overlooked Moore, to gun for WBC mandatory position), James Kirkland. All WBC top 15 guys.
I still reckon beat that Baysangurov guy (European champ, K2 Promotions prospect) while he's still a bit raw. Because one day he's not going to be losing many fights, possibly at world level!

I think Rhodes will win this, but depends how much he's got left and if he's ok at the weight. Wouldn't put my house on it though.

i reckon you dont need to fight anyone from here if you dont want to Jamie, just crack on after that Euro belt, try and get some international profile.

Jamie,
Re Rhodes.
Still plenty in the tank, and the weight is very comfortable.
Had his check weight with the board this week - bang on.
Ryan sends his regards.

If all's ok then can't see why he doesn't win this. Tell him I said good luck and I'll see you down there.

As for the bantam's its 1-1 with Napa and Booth And 1-1 with Me and Napa.
Think Robinson has retired?
Which ever fight comes 1st for me out of Napa Booth or Bell il be happy with.

Because he'd only dissect a domestic level fighter and hasn't done much since returning.
Woods would paste him.

it's a nice little thread but I'm really not sure I'd like to see Earl versus anyone. I hope he retires, there's certainly nothing he needs to prove. Buy a pub, be an electrician or something and live an extra 20 years I say. Just my opinion. Other than that some good ones.
Think Jamie's right.......no particular affiliations either way but I wouldn't really like to see them two (him and Macklin) share a ring again. You know neither is SIGNIFICANTLY better than the other, only that they are both good, so it's like Mr T says........."My prediction?....PAIN!"........no thanks.

Yeah, appologies there it sounded wrong. Just think Napa has been improving and gained alot of confidence in winning the title. I personally think you need a confidence boosting meaningful win before a challenge to Napa. As things stand, then I would strongly favour Napa to win (sorry).
Think you vs Booth would be the perfect fight... the winner will have a championship, and more crucially the confidence, and in your case Martin, less ring rust to give Napa a really fist of it.
Not that you will not be competitive now with Napa, of course you will be - you were in the rematch.... just think you need a big fight just to give you more of a fairer chance.
Nice to hear from you, and you're still ambitious... good luck.
What would your predictions by for a Munyai vs Napa fight?

NEBF,
Yeah, possibly right over Earl... I cringe when I hear him speak I really do. However, he seems adamant he will return and really he should be still in the mix. Losing to Khan and Kastidis potentially isn't too bad, and he always has the "caught cold" scenerio with Khan.... which I think is partially true.
Thaxton is at a similar stage, both have legitimate bragging rights to be the #2 in the devision.... why not, if Earl wants to. Thaxton looks a little shot IMO also, sorry to say - cause I like Jono.
As for Macklin vs Moore... yeah their good buddies... personally, although naturally Jamie would answer this better, I think a rematch wouldn't necessarily be the same fight. Both are quite accomplished boxers (not just sluggers), especially Macklin who has boxed to a backfoot jab before.... I think it could be a bit like Barrera vs Morales II... more of a boxing, chess battle.

He's still a very very good fighter and of all the comeback fights he had most ppl have only seen the lesser showing vs Gbenga. Not the beatdown of Powers & the blowout of Ovill McKenzie. McKenzie is raw but don't forget he had Denis Inkin on the floor.
You have to realise, Francis was at about the same level as Joe Calzaghe in 1996-7 until he had that horrible shoulder injury. The classy skills that allowed him to beat common opponents with more finesse and more authority than WBO-holders Calzaghe and Collins are still there. It's just that he's older and doesn't freely use his right hand. He wouldn't even be here now if he didn't have an exceptional left.
Dean can still make a mark domestically. The Woods fight won't happen not with talk of Joe-Woods. But back in 1997, Francis had a shout at beating Calzaghe, would have creamed Woods, and was arguably better than short time WBC title holders Reid, Woodhall and Catley, when Deano was a domestic/European champion.

True, he was so polished for his age. Hard to believe that he was only like 23/24 when he first did his shoulder in. He fought with such experience.
