SO WHO DO YOU WANT AMIR KHAN TO FIGHT NEXT?

Having watched live in the flesh Yuri Romanovs very world class-looking, dominant, composed bludgeoning of a wild swinging, gutsy and completely outclassed Jon Thaxton, i think Amir should finally fight a credible opponent as both Romanov and Thaxton did.
I think not fighting for the European belt and gaining the experience of tackling a skilled boxer-puncher like Romanov shows a lack of confidence by Team Khan (dont blame em) and doesn't exactly prep him for this alleged title shot v a guy like Casamyor or Campbell.
Who do you WANT, not think, Amir should fight next?
(Not included Jon Thaxton as he may well be out of action for a while)

I go for, Hard ass Mexican / or yank who can last 10 rds
He's had the record padding fights.
He's had the flashy title elim vs nobody.
Now make sure Khan knows how to fight before gunning for Nate Campbell.

I'm amazed you dont want him to go the traditional route and prove himself v Romanov.
Love how Barry McGuigan bobbed and weaved away from the Romanov question.

Edner Cherry was mentioned by someone of here. I think he'd be a good boxer to fight next.

Edner Cherry
Derrick Gainer
John Murray - But I cannot see either Hennessy or W arren getting serious over that one.
I would have said Jon Thaxton - but that cut on his eye was a bad one and I cannot see him being ready for June.

Anthony Peterson, a promising Yank who has a brother of nearly identical style up at luight welter.
Peterson can punch, loves to trade punches, can cup his hands around his face pretty well to take the weight out of his opponents' shots. Good young fighter but the lack of experience is apparent.
Why the fight?
Khan is WBO#2.
Peterson is WBO#1.
(Caamayor won't be in the way; as in a different thread, Casamayor is likely to fight Juan Diaz in defense of his lineal title & Casamayor has already dismissed Campbell as a future foe)

What about Robbie Peden? Not sure of his recent form, but he beat Campbell twice but is fairly easy to hit.

Think he's retired mate. Got KO'd by some Journeyman after he lost to Barrera.

Defo retired, but Khan brings money to the table.
Zahir Raheem? Small lightweight who has Morales on his record, moves well too.

Cheers, didn't know what was going on with him.
I think I would go with Kid Diamond then, tough as nails. Should be a good learning fight for Khan

Was thinking that myself. Little bit of name value, and he's looked very beatable lately.

A solution to the 'World Champ Dilema' - How about Jose Alfaro (WBA 'Regular World Champion' - Cambell is the 'Super Champ', and Alfaro is not too impressive from his record),
The there is Corley (will fight at 135 lost his last 3 but tricky good learning fight plus an ex champ), Jose Cotto (got a famous brother and a step up) and Stevie Johnston

Romanov is gunning for Alfaro I think.

Maybe but Khan's money could superseed him, Alfaro has a fight lined up though

GAVIN REES - Non puncher, but quick, good workrate, gets the former world champion billing, plus the Calzaghe link makes it a reasonably big event. Rees could show Khan a few things that he hasn't seen before, or he could just get blasted out in a couple of rounds (which would be a very good statement from Khan)

well if he wants the title fight after 1 more fight, (which i feel is rushing) it should be against a Puncher with Stamina.
Work rate and speed not really an issue, just need to see if he can take Bombs over a long Period

I don't know. Rees would have been a bit more appealing when he had something, like a WBA world title.
He got battered by Kotelnik, like Thaxton got dissected by Romanov. They have both been devalued in my eyes, pretty dramatically.
How about fighting one of these "Brit-killing" Eastern Europeans like Romanov or Kotelnik. It makes for a great story/subplot. But it won't happen.

No arguments from me, but the chance of Khan going in with these dangerous Europeans is pretty slim, hence I think Rees is the best option. He isn't going to be let anywhere near someone that can bang. If Rees won (on ITV) Warren gets a new star - bottom line is that he (Warren) is probably going to get dropped by Khan as soon as his contract ends, so if he is going to lose it makes more sense for it to be against a Warren fighter.

i think there is only murray left in UK
i tough mexican roadsweeper would be a good learning fight but i dont think i would be able to come on boxrec no more cause he would get hammerred by his critics
i think its pointless putting him in with romanov cause he is as good as any in the world so why risk him for the euro when the same risk would be applyed for a world title

If you want a tough, tricky, clever Mexcian then perhaps 5times world champion Medina whos ticks the box of a none punching Super-Feather. Theres also ex P4P Stevie Johnston thats too past it to pull off a win but will surely show Khan a bag of tricks

The idea of Medina is an interesting one, id like to see that fight,
he has a high punch output and tireless with bundles of experience.
Although the fact remains Medina is a natural featherweight and
is past it, he still is a live body and although he is much smaller than Khan, he is bigger than the likes of Earl and St Clair.

Medina's too small. Khan's practically a light welter.
