Golden Boy Promotions are matching "Ring Magazine" lightweight champ Joel Casamayor with Juan Diaz. Diaz was recently dethroned by Nate Campbell for the WBO, IBF and WBA belts. This created a rift in the division, with two men claiming they are "The Man."

Anyway, if GBP are successful in making Casamayor-Diaz (in Houston, TX - Diaz's hometown, this summer), Casamayor gives up his shot at Campbell (Casa is also WBO Interim champ).

So, this leaves one man standing in Khan's way. Anthony Peterson, a very promising American who is even less ready for a title shot than Khan. Don't know when Campbell has to fight Peterson. Campbell can probably have a voluntary. Peterson's ppl surely won't go for the belt yet.

So, just to make clear, it does not look like we "need to wait for Campbell and Casamayor to sort it out."

Peterson vs Khan would be mouthwatering for me. :P

definitely, but I can't see two prospects fighting the old fashioned way, to determine who deserves to challenge the champion!

It all depends now on the governing bodies and whether they will allow a voluntary defence and when a mandatory will be forced.

The other thing Mr W arren could do is offer an awful lot of money for Campbell to come across here.

I would prefer Mr W arren to stick to his guns - Khan in another learning fight against quality but not quite world class opposition - I will say again Amir Khan is not quite ready yet.

The WBO seem to be pretty accomodating to a certain promoter.

And obviously, outside of that, Khan representing a payday to Campbell, the old fashioned, unfashionable guy who surely wants to make big money.

Anthony Peterson is far from the finished article also .. a very leaky defence and not the most fluid offence.

But he is young - very ambitious - whacks decent enough - and holds a decent shot ..

I see them waiting for Casamayor or Campbell to show how `old` they really are .. then like alot of British `greats` they take the title off an old washed up former great champion .. thats never happened before has it?

Casamayor would take Khan apart at this stage. Too experienced for Khan in my view.

Khan I am convinced will get there - I honestly believe he has what it takes to become a genuine world class boxer - but he needs to live the life of a boxer not a celebrity.

Don't think they've even considering Casamayor, personally. Casamayor has his thing with the Golden Boy (I mean, Ring/Lineal) world title that he defends vs Golden Boy fighters (Santa Cruz, Katsidis, and soon newly signed Juan Diaz) on Golden Boy shows, endorsed by HBO.

Warren will surely go the sanctioning body route due to his history with the WBO and the prospect of winning purse bids if/when Campbell is mandated to fight him, to secure home advantage. A vacated belt would be even better!


Peterson (Anthony) is definitely not a complete pro yet. Great attitude, hard woker though. Looks like he's going to be a rough handful. I prefer watching his brother Lamont who throws more shots with a bit better technique. Anthony can telegraph his shots a bit.

Would love to see it, Spud. Would be a MASSIVE gamble though. He's got limitations (Katsidis) but he's most definitely strong and carries a decent dig.

In my opinion Peterson is a better fighter than Campbell. Therefore it would be a high risk fight with little reward. Campbell should go for the big money and fight Khan.

Both the Petersons are awesome prospects, with Lamont possessing more skills and Anthony possessing more power (and also plenty of other attributes to boot)

I agree. Campbell is so inconsistent and I don't believe he's suddenly gone up a notch or two at his age. Perhaps we all overrated Diaz.

peterson telegraphing his shots wont make too much difference. you could hold up a banner with "here comes a right hand" and amir will still get caught with it. its a good fight this one..if its made.

very true. He tries too hard, throws too many shots, puts too much snap into each punch without managing to inject any power in - he's a real try hard and the 1st time he fought someone world class that didn't back off, fold or quit, he lost.

Julio Diaz and Freitas were picked at the right time, when they no longer had any fight in them.

Now that he's lost, this squat, stocky kid isn't going to get any better. I hope Casamayor schools him. He once sobbed in a post fight interview of a hard fight he got dropped in. There are mental cracks in this guy that can be opened up, when someone stands up to him.

Diaz turned out not to be the goodie two shoes that he makes out to be. Aftre losing he cried foul and accused Campbell of being on steroids. Bad taste.

Anthony does announce his shots a bit, doesn't he? Lamont's definitely the better boxer. I didn't like the look of either on their last shared fight card. But they will probably go on to do well, when they iron out the faults.

Campbell just did a great interview on boxing talk. What he said echos what I've been thinking for a long time. That was a proper interview and not just the usual shite that boxers spew out.
