...that the WBC has decided to promote Lockett from outside of their top 40 to number 15 thereby allowing him to fight Pavlik for their title when he hasn't had a fight in the meantime?

Probably not. It's a disgrace though but even I'm becoming numb to it. It should have just been for the WBO belt.

The WBC are a disgraceful joke organisation. Cashing in for sanctioning fees and fooling people into believing they are the number one organisation and therefore their belt means more than the many others. Sulaiman is a corrupt buffoon.

I remember Don King managed to move Danny Perez from #26 to #10 to accomodate Nigel Benn at Wembley when Steve Little pulled out late.

I still find it surprising the boxers stand for it, i mean Pavlik paid $10,000 to have his rematch with Taylor sanctioned by the WBC, even though it was an over the weight match.
Still they got awarded a medal

Armits article is a good one - McNeilly's initial post is something that occasionally gets brought out by posters on here and other forums - I will put it in crude terms "How the f*ck has that fight got sanctioned?"
To be honest we have seen this sort of thing for years and years and years.
Cancellations at late notice - opponent brought in sanctioned by the world governing body and then the BBBofC have authorised it.
I remember Davey Walker getting his fight against Roman Karmazin - should he have got that fight? - I was delighted he got his chance - but many of you guys argued there is no way he should have been given the chance.
Time and time again - it happens especially in voluntary defences because you can be a little more sneaky about it - in otherwords the promoter/matchmaker selects the opponent - they canvass the governing body concerned - to save face the governing body sneak that fighter into the rankings - the fight is then announced.
Thats boxing - unfortunately.

Yeah, I agree it is a disgrace... but as you said its pretty much a given that it will always happen.
If I was Lockett though, I wouldn't have bothered with paying the sanctioning fees. I know its the green belt, but Pavlik is the man and he'd still hold one of the big 4 should he pull off the upset.
Golota getting sanctioned vs Byrd was possibly the worst.

Eddie Croft getting sanctioned for an exhibition-charity bout with Erik Morales was bad enough, until the WBC sanctioned it as a voluntary defence.
This was a prime, hungry monster Morales too.
I think mediocre Croft had been inactive 30months.

One of the greatest mismatches for a world title , one Rafael Lovera challanged for the WBC Light flyweight title in 1975, against Luis Estaba a hard punching guy.
The main problem? Rafael Lovera was making his pro debut, and unsurprisingly lost , but he did last till the 4th. After which he was never heard of again in a boxing ring.

The brass balls of the Mexican banditos knows no limit. They'd be hard pressed to come up with a "reason" for this one.
All the big 4 alphabet boys are as bad as each other.

Unfortunately it's still the most prestigious of all the titles, but the Sulaiman's are trying their best to stop that.

Yea he should of gone after the WBU belt

or the belt that was robbed from Rabah, or Collazo's paper belt or the belt held by the ATG Vicous Maussa

This comes down to the belt making the fighter or the fighter making the belt. The WBA is still the second most pretisgious boxing organisation, although the IBF isn't far off nowadays IMO.

I agree about the fighter making the belt but a real champ fights his number 1 challenge at the weight, Hatton at 140 hasn't fought his number 1 challenge at 140 since becoming linear champ. Number 1 challenges:
Mayweather (wouldn't fight him at 140 got battered at 147 would have got battered at 140),
Cotto (the fight was offered to him at 1 stage or another he didnt take it)
Witter (blatantly ducked the fight for 8 years)
Hatton's become a paper linear champ like Shannon Briggs at Heavy

From memory, Junior never has been a number one challenger for the IBF or WBA, and, to be honest, when Hatton vacated the IBF belt the first time he fought a better opponent in Maussa than the Polish bloke who was mandatory. At the time when he was champ, there wasn't a decent mandatory fighter for his IBF (both times) or WBA belt.
I've been told that Cotto was offered the fight after Harris lost, but turned it down. To be honest, I could easily believe that as Arum knew that Cotto was weak at 140, so carefully matched him at that weight to develop him for the big stage at 147.
IMO I don't think anyone can question Hatton's guts, he fought the best fighter of the decade, but they can question his motiviations.
