When they fought in '01 what was their approximate P4P rankings?
Wasn't Trinidad considered to be Top 2 and Hopkins Top 5?

I think Tito by many at the time was considered as the #1 fighter pound per pound. He had an incredible streak of title bout wins with 19 I believe.

Had to rack my brains a bit, but I think I recall safely, now. One area which didn't need much thought was who most people had as their #1, that wasn't ever Trinidad, for the majority. The bulk still had Roy at #1, circa 2001. This was before he had moved up to best Ruiz, en route to losing to Tarver.

I remember Hopkins being in the 8-10 bracket a lot. Trinidad was higher --- most had him in the top five, nearly all within their top seven. Mayweather was there, & Mosley was ranked very highly on the back of his upset victory in 2000 against De La Hoya.

I can't remember a single pound-for-pound list from that time which had Trinidad #1 over Jones that didn't come from a Puerto Rican.

KO Magazine had Trinidad #2 P4P right behind Mosely. Jones was #4 right behind Mayweather. Hopkins was #7. World Boxing and Ring Magazine had the exact same rankings.

Those rankings had been fairly consistent over the previous several months. Trinidad had only recently won fighter of the year honors

September 01 of Ring magazine had these rankings:

I cant find my mags from oct (they are all out of order) but world boxing for november which pretty much had the same staff. had these rankings:

1 mosley
2 trinidad
3 mayweather
4 jones
5 barrera
6 dlh
7hopkins
8 hamed
9 lopes
10 morales
11 vargas
12 austin

it appears the rankings hadnt yet been updated in november for hopkins win over trinidad.

Good question. I didn't even think of that when I started this thread. i guess because the fight was almost 7 years ago it belonged in this thread. I consider Trinidad a boxer of the past even though he might fight Taylor. I think Hopkins is done one way or another after he fights Calzaghe.

Maybe because they already established themselves as future Hall of Famers.
