if Calzaghe won the Barca olympics and fought Benn for the WBC supermiddle title in Feb 95 at Wembley stadium..
Calzaghe coming out to 'firestarter' by Prodigy, with a huge Welsh following.. then the 12 gongs of big ben and Benn appears with NO FEAR wooly hat and eyes to kill..
who ya got..?

Calzaghe KO 10.
Calzaghe is better all round than Benn, Benn would have a punchers chance, but JC has a good chin.

talk about a dream fight scenario for british boxing! this is it!
no way on earth would this go 10 rounds. i'd have to go with benn, because calzaghe was too wild back then, his punches too wide and benn's hooks would get in. maybe 2-3 rounds.

Would have been a barnburner, but I have to agree with DG. Calzaghe is more resiliant than Benn ever was and can take a punch as good as he can throw one. Still, with Benn's power he always had a good chance of victory, so he may have beaten Calzaghe. It's a shame Joe came around just when the super middleweight divsions started to fall off.

there'd be extreme excitement!
obviously the calzaghe who fought lacy beats benn easily. nigel was made for that joe.

Calzghe is the worst style for Benn and I think Benn would have been stopped on the three knockdown rule by round 3.
It would have been something like the Breland vs Honeygan fight. I love Nigel Benn he would have never had beaten Calzaghe!

As much as I rate Calzaghe, its impossible for me to say. Anything could happen when benn was the ring, he took so many risks and swung so wild, with such intent.

But the Calzaghe who fought Brewer would not beat Nigel Benn. Benn got up from every knockdown in his life, ready to throw bombs (and kill) again.
The Calzaghe who fought Ashira and Bika just would not beat Nigel Benn. But then again, he'd be a lot more up for Benn than he was for those two :) Knowing he could be rendered unconscious in the blink of an eye...
If Calzaghe 'boxed', I agree that Benn's head was always in right the position for Calzaghe to release his punches onto.

BENN BCK THEN WOULD OF TREATED CALZ AS A YOUNG OVER HYPED PRETENDER KIND OF GUY ND TRIED 2 SMASH HIM UP
BUT WHEN CALZ WOULD STAY WITH HIM ND FIRE BCK, TAKE SHOTS ND HURT HIM BAD ... BENN WOULD QUIT, AS HE ALWAYS DID

In my opinion Benn's power wasn't as devastating at supermiddleweight, he went the distance far more often or stopped fighters later. Calzaghes chin is very good and he has underestimated power, quick hands and great stamina and endurance. He would take Benns early bombs and outlast him for a late stoppage....9th/10th round.

That's actually a point I hadn't thought. Calzaghe was always a huge super-middleweight, while Benn was always a small one.
