I have read on youtube.com that Chuvalo actually had a cheekbone injury BEFORE entering the ring with Frazier on 7/19/67.

I had never heard of this, and always thought Joe's punches caused the orbital/cheekbone damage that forced Chuvalo face to turn away and quit early in the 4th round that night.

Anybody know anything about this supposed pre-fight injury? Is it true? I was in my teens back then, an avid boxing fan, but I recall no stories about a pre-fight injury.

If there was indeed a pre-fight injury, why in hell would the NYSAC and Chuvalo's management let him get in the ring that night before the injury healed itself?

It was definitely Joe's punches that caused most of the damage . . Chuvalo didn't come into the ring with his eye falling out of its socket.

The Chuvalo-Frazier fight is on youtube, and in the comments section, some guy is claiming there was a pre-fight injury.

It is probably just bullcrap, I can't believe Chuvalo would have gotten into the ring with Frazier with any kind of injury at all.

If you needed the pay day you most likely would.

But thats just crazy.

Chuvalo couldn't defend himself against Frazier's left hook.

Over and over Chuvalo lifted his right arm upward in a lazy, too late attempt to brush away the punch AFTER it had already landed.

The Frazier of earlier years punched with a right hand and threw body shots with both hands.

Ali must have defended himself better than Chuvalo. Ali won two of three with Joe.

I don't know.

I remember one devastating right hand to the body he landed against Ali in their first fight as Ali was backed into a corner.
So he could throw if it he wanted to, but he didn't.

At that time he was all left hook.
He even used a lighter hook as a sort of jab (i.e.: to locate the target) for a heavier left hook.

Ali knew that the left hook was the only punch he had to watch for, and he still got clobbered by it.

I enjoyed watching Frazier fight more than any other heavyweight. Pure excitement.

Without a doubt Frazier made a fight exciting.

Bugner vs Frazier is one exciting war, lots of action and good body shots in it.

Quarry was just outclassed and out geared by Frazier in any meeting. Defiant as he is, Frazier was just that much better.
