I was thinking of boxers that most boxers are associated w/a weight class, all time greats, average boxers, etc. Theres very few boxers that are not associated w/a weight classes.

Here is a list of a few:

Emanuel Augustus
Archie Moore
Floyd Mayweather Jr
Roy Jones Jr
Manny Pacquiao
Zahir Raheem

Henry Armstrong comes to mind, though probably thought more of a Lightweight than a Welterweight.

I personally think a fighter should ONLY be rated at ONE Weight on an 'all-time' level, it leaves more space for other deserving greats! if a fighter held 2 or 3 National titles or "lesser" Alphabet titles then he may be thought of in more than one weight Nationally.

but as an All-Time Great the REAL Belt and the weight he competed most at, then that is his weight (true, natural weight), therefore making Henry Armstong ONE of the greatest Welterweights of all-time!

I believe Boxrec does it by where the fighter made his greatest accomplishments at.

It's kinda like Doug Fischer said in the Countdown to Hopkins-Calzaghe: "What we're actually seeing is the best Middleweight of this generation versus the best Super Middleweight of this generation actually fighting for the Light Heavyweight Championship."

Anyway, to add to the discussion Jorge Arce can't necessarily be associated with a weight class, considering he's moved up a few and may continue to do so, and if he were to retire today hecould be rated either at 108 or 112, since he had two reigns (one very long) at Light Fly but had some of his most violent and memorable fights at 112.

Oscar De La Hoya is somewhat ambiguous as far as weight class goes as well considering he's been through so many and was a star from the very start of his career. Add to that the fact that he was in his prime at two weight classes in WW and LMW.

Pacquiao I'd say would be at Super Featherweight, considering he's had more of his big victories there than anywhere else and actually managed to stay there for a few years versus just kinda passing through as he did with 122 and especially 126.

Mayweather by now would be at Welterweight because he shot through 135 and 140 pretty quickly and had most of his fights at 130, however he didn't beat as many high profile opponents at 130 nor did he win the illustrious Ring Championship there the way he has at WW.

Jones would easily be at Light Heavyweight. He had some good early victories at 160 and only a few fights at 168 before hitting 175 and making a very long, dominating, winning streak for himself. He also only had 1 fight at HW.

Georges Carpentier comes to mind.
He fought in every weight class from flyweigt to Heavy.

Are you sure about that DW? I thought Mayweather won the Ring Magazine title at 130 by beating Corrales?

James Toney - Although his Cruiserweight and Light Middleweight reigns come to mind
Alexis Arguello - had some memorable fights against Escalera, Pryor, Mancini all in different weight classes

i'm pretty sure the ring titles didn't start until the beginning of 2002 and they only named the champs who had all the major belts. lennox, jones jr., tzsyu and hopkins were all named champs when they first started if i remember correctly

hasnt the ring champion always been lineal but? because floyd mayweather was the lineal 130lb champion as well as 135lb champion and 147

Possibly Bob Fitzsimmons. He is thought of as a heavyweight most often, however he is considered an ATG because he won the middleweight and lightheavyweight titles as well.

Nice list, but in the back of my mind Archie Moore is a light-heavyweight.
