what is the difference between a 'Split Decision' and a 'Majority Decision'?

I cant figure it out.

Majority is you get it on 2, a draw on the 3rd

you get it one one, draw on 2 is a majority draw

you get one, oppo gets one, draw on one, is a draw

im not sure i understand that, because for example, a book im reading says Holyfield beat Qawi and a Majority verdict, but the scores were 114-140 Holyfield, 143-141 Qawi and 147-138 Holyfield.

that to me looks like a split decision

Well that was a long time ago, the terminology might have changed

surely though there has always been a split decision and a majority.

Maybe its just a mistake in the book, but Holyfield wrote the book so im guessing he knows what he is saying.

Don't worry one of the Athletic Commisioners in charge of the Burton vs Augustus fight infamously didn't know the difference either - as Teddy Atlas showed him up.

When there is a winner:

Majority decision is when 2 of the three judges score the bout for the winner while the third judge scores the bout a draw.

Split decision is when 2 of the three judges score the bout for the winner while the third judge scores the bout for the loser.

When there is a draw:

Majority decision draw is when 2 of the judges score the bout a draw while the third judge scores the bout in whichever direction for one of the fighters.

Split decision draw is when one judge scores it for Fighter A, one judge scores it for fighter B and the third judge scores it as a draw.

There is such a thing as a "majority draw" and "split draw." Obviously a unanimous draw like a unanimous decision winner is when all 3 judges score the bout the same, but in the case of a draw it would be all 3 judges score the bout exactly the same (ex. 95-95, 95-95, 95-95). The classification of the draw is somewhat irrelevant though because in the end it's still a draw.
