Seriously though, Kimbo's career has been engineered brilliantly.

His first 3 MMA foes have been perfectly picked - Ray Mercer (low on desire, out of his comfort zone and well overweight), Bo Cantrell (scared of his own shadow, dived to the matt at the earliest opportunity) Tank Abbott (as old as the hills, a one trick pony and without a win in some time).

His next foe is a Brit - The Collosus James Thompson. Whilst 'Mega punk' cuts an intimidating figure, his gong and rush tactics, combined with a poor chin will mean he goes the same way as the rest.

As you say, fantastic match making to build on the internet legend.

For Kimbo's part he has put in the work and has an excellent coach in Bas Rutten to lead him through the minefield of MMA.

Kimbo is dedicated and humble in his approach to a new sport; there have been rumours of him getting KO'ed in sparring by Forrest Griffin, but at least he is getting top quality sparring and giving himself the best chance of developing into a legitimate fighter.

Love him or loathe him, he is a charismatic and engaging figure and one which is helping MMA devlelop it's main stream appeal.

To be fair to him he's made the transition quite well. In that I mean he was getting slated for being nothing more than an untrained brawler who would be pasted the first time he fought a "skilled" fighter. An interesting personality to be in the sport.

I don't think he'll make it more acceptable because people see internet bare knuckle boxing as pretty dirty. I don't think he looks very skilful in those fights on internet.

If you read about his history, even the internet fights appear to have been well engineered affairs. Not saying they weren't genuine, but it seems to me like some major figure paid him large sums of money to take part in those fights with this branching out into MMA being planned from ages ago.

really? link?

bit of a long shot to get into MMA, the gannon fight wasnt set up, and some of the punches look genuine. Doubt they'd post up any defeats though, the gannon fight was too well advertised to not be recorded.

It doesn't help that he can't get off his tits on PCP before fighting, like he used to in his street fighting days.

Nah, I dont reckon it was as structured and well planned as that to be honest.

He was a local hardman around Miami who got into doing security for a p0rn mogul.

The p0rn entrepreneur DID put money up (around $10,000) to back his bare knuckle fights and took the opportunity to tape them and host them on his p0rnsite (link below to good quality copies of Kimbo's bare knuckle fights except for the Gannon match)

There was no over riding strategy to move into MMA, however. As I understand it, one of Kimbo's friends, Ray, fought and lost to a much smaller fighter called Jorge Masdival who fights out of at ATT in Miami.

It was at American Top Team that Kimbo got his first taste of MMA and was drawn to the discipline ad technique invloved.

He has since left Miami, relocted to LA, and trains full time with Bas Rutten as he persues his MMA career.

In terms of mainstream exceptance, below is a video if Kimbo shooting the front cover to ESPN magazine:

In addition to this his next fight will be carried by CBS in the states. That is a long way from fighting bare knuckle in a Miami boat yard!
