Tommy Gomez was a small heavyweight who knocked out (KO, not TKO) some hard to knock out heavies.

tommy gomez indeed....glad to see someone remember him..forgot about him myself until this post. He liked to come in at around 180 and belted some of the leading heavyweights cold. Got shot up in the service and got the purple heart..and by shot up I think he was wounded several times.
I THINK it was Gomez who was in an exhibition match with Joe Louis, and in these Joe made into mostly a sparring display, unless pushed. Gomez smacked him with a beauty and Joe flattened him. Louis did the same thing to Elmer Ray. Guys who followed Joe's exhibitions said it was a kind of point of pride when Louis opened up on these guys..it was his way of showing they were making a real fight of it.

that neither man scored a knockdown and Satterfield earned one of
his rare decisions. Gomez returned to Tampa, Florida, and became a
beer salesman.

Big Cat Williams could certainly punch. He had a very impressive Ko record and I even remember Ali saying how when he fought Williams, Williams really shook Ali up on a few occasions.
