New Years Eve? The traditional big fight date? think that might be an error or a default date, pal

Surely New Years Eve is just put forward as a default date i.e before the end of the year?

Its rare to see a boxing show put on in the American 'Holiday Season'.

Japan has a tradition of staging big MMA shows on New Years Eve and UFC have put on consecutive end of year shows in Las Vegas, but I cant think of too many examples of boxing shows going out on New Years Eve..

As for the fight I would like to see Haye have 2 - 3 matches to 'bed' into the heavyweight scene (much as Holyfield did) before going for the big prize.

Not a chance of Haye meeting Wlad this year. Wlad has Thompson in July and then Povetkin, probably in November.

Haye needs to beat someone at heavy, apart from Tomasz Bonin, and then go see about Wlad next year.

Well I think its a default date and Haye has said he'll have 2 fights (against top 10 fighters apparently) at HW while Klitischko is having his mandataries so I guess it won't be until next year if it happens... which is a shame cos that's my birthday and I'm already approaching the mid life crisis!

This is daft. Rumours are flying around about Rahman or Shannon Briggs for Haye. While Klitschko has two pretty certain foes - Thompson & Povetkin - because they are his mandatories.

Can anyone imagine Haye going after a Wlad who has been stripped of his two belts?

With boxing being about hype and politics and getting yourself noticed at the right time - for me despite what some of you say - Haye slating Klitschko in front of the camera's - spookily they were all there when David caught up with Klitschko at the elevator!!! - but for it was a masterstroke.

Team Haye are making the right noises at the right time thus far.

Right, best clear up the confusion. The odds are provisional- if Haye fights Klit before or on 31-12-2008, thats the odds you can take- its actually offered only by one bookie- Corals.

IE if they fight, and you have made that bet, they honour it as long as the fight is before 31-12-08. If the fight doesn't happen, you get your money back.

Its like a potential bet, so to speak.

As they put it- " Who will win this World Heavyweight Title Fight IF TAKEN PLACE in 2008? "

They arn't saying it will be on that date, thats just the deadline.

Whicker has it spot on.

And, just to be pedantic, 4/7 isn't a slight favourite. He is odds on, although in fairness I think he should be shorter......
