Calzaghe - Manfredo (not that there was any doubt to the outcome, but it was a bullshit stoppage... JC conned the ref.)

Travis Walker/TJ Wilson could have been allowed to go. Wilson's punches were not hitting flush. Agree that Calzaghe/Manfredo was hogwash.

Shufford-McCline . . .Shufford was whupping McCline's ass . . Jameel gets in a decent shot, Shufford goes down but is alright, McCline follows up with a pathetic flurry of shots which don't even land and the ref steps in.
HORRIBLE stoppage.

Alabama let the Vera-Lee thing go. It was bad but not incredibly horrible. It could have been stopped sooner in the round actually. He wasn't going to win.

I can never understand why this fight always gets a mention on threads like this. Byron's eyes were in orbit, and his legs had gone. Yes, he caught Calzaghe, and had him down, seconds before the end, but he was well and truly out on his feet when the stoppage came. He was never going to get back into the fight, and was only going to get hurt had it continued.
One that comes to my mind is a small British affair a couple of years back: Corcoran Vs Hughes. Hughes had Corcoran in serious trouble several times, and, really, no one would have complained had the fight been waved off. But Corcoran came back, hurt Hughes, and the ref called a halt to the bout. Hughes was in no worse shape than Corcoran had been three or four times in previous rounds, and, if I recall correctly, landed a decent punch of his own just prior to the stoppage. It was poor.

Lee hit Vera with a good shot a second before the stoppage. The ref did a horrible job. It's ref jobs like this that hurt the sport of boxing.

How about Mayweather-Manfredy?

I did not like Calzaghe Manfredo either. Peter was intelligently defending himself. I hate that shit. The guy is covering up well and is just waiting to throw as soon as Calzaghe stops wasting shots on his guard. Calzaghe was unloading and blocking them was his best defense at the time. To just pull out of guard to throw at that point is the risky unintelligent thing to do. Give the guy credit for doing the right thing and let him try to answer.
I would be pissed if I were him. If that starched Joe a bit and Peter landed something big he could have been the champ. It's unlikely but it's very rare to fight an undefeated guy like Calzaghe....I'd want to really get knocked out rather than have my chances taken like that.

You think a guy lolling on the ropes with his eyes bugging out and drool pouring from his mouth is in a fit state to continue?

I'm never going to change my opinion about the Castillo/Corralles fight. You can't steal someones glory like that, I'm sure Jose Luis would not have any beef with being beaten to death for a chance to put Diego on the floor in the 11th

I agree with you, but we're in a minority. Don't sweat 'Bama, Oliver --- his experience in combat doesn't extend beyond his PS3, literally

Byrd was stopped too soon vs Ibeabuchi??? did you really watch the fight? Byrd was all over the place he was so wobbly his eyes were not even upright and he had saliva streaming from his mouth. the shot with which Ike caught him was so huge you could hear it loud thru TV !

I agree with Lopez. Lee suffered a hell of a beating in that round. The stoppage came in a bad moment, but it wasnt horrible. Although I think he might have won, but in the round of the stoppage he suffered a real severe beating, so summa summarum I dont have problem with that stoppage.
Travis Walker vs TJ Wilson 1 come to my mind which was a horrible stoppage imo.

Byrd was yelling "I was rocked, I was rocked" in his corner after the fight. He was so F'd up he couldn't get it right that he meant "I was robbed..."

Look oliver, Byrd was clearly ready to fight on and he was talking to the ref about being illegally fouled and pushed by Ike (the 2nd knockdown).
The Chris Byrd stoppage was very premature. Probably one of the top 3 worst stoppages in the sport.

You simply don't know much about boxing.
Byrd wasn't hurt THAT badly. He was up and getting his legs back when Ike pushed him to the ground for the 2nd knockdown. Byrd rightfully complained about the illegal PUSH down and the ref did nothing.
If anything the result should be changed to a no-contest because of the ref's poor judgement.

Byrd was starched.
