i concur.
norton could be intimidated. as big and strong as he is, i feel his glass jaw would shatter under smokin joes big punching, in quick time. kennys crab defence wasnt nearly as effective as archie moores, tim witherspoon or george foreman 'version 2'.

This is the one potential great matchup of the great heavyweights of the 70s that never happened. Would Frazier's aggression have been too much for Norton's crab defense? Would Norton outpoint Frazier?
What do you think?
Anyone have any idea how come it never happened anyway?
I remember reading that they were good friends. Perhaps that is why they never fought.

Yes, they were friends...Frazier was in the front row in at least one of the Ali-Norton fights cheering him on. Of course, friends do sometimes end ujp fighting each other, but the gate attraction at the time weren't as good as some others, so they didn't have to.
Norton could not fight backing up. Frazier would back him up. then, he would knock him down. And out.

There was a lot more than one potentially great 70's match which never happened.

They didn't know that in 2003.

I think Frazier takes out Ken sometime between the 4th and 6th round

That is probably right, but I could see Kenny possibly getting a little further.

...frazier said he'd never fight norton because of friendship....norton said he'd never fight frazier because his mother didn't give birth to any stupid children...

If you are talking about prime v. prime, the first four rounds would have been interesting and entertaining, then Joe would have begun beating Norton down. I don't think Norton could have handled Joe's body attack or pressure. I don't see Norton answering the bell for round 10.

It was reported that Joe Frazier and Ken Norton were friends. In regards to a bout between the two during their peak years, it would have been a terrible matchup for Norton, who was destroyed in short order when facing the big punchers in the heavyweight division. As a result, Norton didn't belong in the ring with the likes of Frazier, George Foreman, Earnie Shavers, Roy Lyle or Gerry Cooney.
