Dunno, do you enjoy watching lambs getting taken to the slaughter house David? ...

Not especially.

Is Pavlik really that good? I don't see it, I know its about levels etc but of all the fighters our second tier could face in a title shot, Pavlik looks eminently more beatable than say Pacquiao or Guzman (Arthur) or Williams or Cotto (Jennings).

Lockett will be taken out.

Pavlik is a finisher.

Same here. Williams didn't show anything in the first fight to suggest he'd win a re-match.

I think Pavlik really is that good. He's not slick or pretty to watch, but has resolve - and, indeed, power - probably second to none in the sport today. Of course, he'll lose one day, but not to Gary Lockett.

I think so, technically he's not the best, but his workrate has been very good from what I've seen of him and he oozes natural power, couple that with a decent chin and I think he's going to take some beating.

Taylor being explosive early nearly had Pavlik out, Lockett Is explosive too but not as negative.

Fcuking-hell! 100-1 is generous odds for Lockett indeed. Normally in a two horse race, you don't get odds like that on any fighter.

Basically, the odds suggest Lockett has no chance whatsoever, but in boxing, you just never know, do you?

Saying that, I expect Pavlik to take Lockett out & then wwe'll have to listen to Enzo Calzaghe ranting that Pavlik is no good & had the fight duration been longer, Lockett would have probably won!

100-1 is ridiculous.

Pavlik's chin isn't great - he has been tagged and dropped a number of times, but seems to be able to recover well and not run out of steam in later rnds.

Just a thought - Pavlik is a big middle and I'm not sure if he will have issues making weight as i'm guessing he's looking to move up and fight Calzaghe next..

I judge a chin on how well they recover as well as what it takes to put then down

Pavilk's chin looks more than good - Miranda can knock down walls, and Taylor hit him full tilt, plus a few free shots in there as well, and still couldn't finish him. That's a good chin.

Lockett has a good chin as well, which means he should be able to hang in there long enough to throw a few bombs back himself. And the Welshman is a natural puncher in either hand...could be very interesting & makes a good looking fight.
Bombs away, I'm looking forward to this one.

100-1 - no way, don't believe it.

Where has his chin looked shaky? Pavlik gets hit because he isn't not great defensively, but his chin seems very good to me. Miranda wasn't able to put a dent in it. Pavlik let Taylor have a free shot in their first fight and was floored but got straight back up and didn't look fazed by it.

He's been dropped by Bedburdick, from memory he was also dropped in the 1st Taylor fight.

When I said it wasn't great - I'm not saying he will get KO'd by a feather, more that he can go down and has gone down in the past...

Unfortunately I haven't seen the Bedburdick fight, but against Taylor Pavlik stuck his chin out as if to say that Taylor couldn't hurt him. Taylor didn't need to be asked twice, but Pavlik got up straight away and back down to business.

Maybe you should watch some of his earlier fights then ;-)

LOL, you guys. search is obviously having a joke of sorts. When do they EVER put odds on like that?

anyway, comparing lockett to taylor is ridiclous. He has no chance in this fight and is not a 'puncher'.

Posted: 09 May 2008, 08:57
by Captain Hook
Of course he has a 'chance'...

Lockett is a decent puncher and Pavlik has looked vulnerable on occasion.

Of course Kelly is overwhelming favourite but you never know.

100-1? No chance, more like 10-1....

Agreed. Any boxer has a chance, it's been a funny season for upsets, and I think Gary has a genuine chance of stopping Kelly within the first 3.

That said, if Gary hasn't at least wobbled him by then Kelly will either stop him 7-10 or win a wide decision.

Back him each way.
