Scott Lawton is in training for a fight next weekend and he is a local boy from just down the road. Nadeem Siddique is on the undercard, but could he make the lightweight limit? Willie Limond? I just hope John doesn't have to settled for a Billy Smith type of opponent.

I could see someone like Mounir Guebbas getting the job, he won last month and always comes ready to fight.
Obviously he's a step down from Fewkes, but with 48 hrs to go Guebbas wouldn't be the worst choice.

As of end of yesterday (or this morning, I forget), there was no opponent.

Yes true, but i was looking at it from a 48hrs to go, and who is willing to fight Murray.

I spoke with Murray's trainer late last night and there was still no news on an opponent.

i did a piece on BBN yesterday about the potential opposition.

Murray as I said has everything to lose and not much to gain, they were looking at Buckland and Gethin earlier in the week and Siddique was mentioned all prospects in their own right and to take them at 48 hours.

Another name mentioned was Sam Rukundo who boxed over here for a while and was a former Olympic Quarter finalist now boxing in Sweden, a southpaw but with 48 hours to go and team murray not ever seen him fight I doubt if it will be him.

Rukundo vs Murray would be a really good match up.

But if Murray was your boxer would you fancy that at 48 days notice!

Rukundo is good, more of a boxer than a puncher, if they did get him than team Murray would hope Rukundo's stamina isn't what it could be given more notice.
Would be a good match given the timescale to find an opponent.

That could be a good commonwealth eliminator down the line. I've seen rukundo a few times and he's tough as teak and a good experienced boxer he had a long amateur career as well

Heard that a tough cookie is being brought in. Don't think they're bringing a knockover to these shores - remember the emphasis is going to be on a TV respectable bout rather than an easy fight. Couple of guys with flashy records considered but probably someone who has proved he can fight will be in. Someone who's done pretty well vs prospect(s) before. Not an African.

I know that Murray and Gallagher want to move on and get either a British or Euro shot. Some promoters would give an easy fill-in ala Mitchell-Torres after Johanesson was injured. In this case we have the TV deals subplot and I get the impression that the Murray fight is to seal the deal, to prove the promoter puts good fights on to a bigger audience.

In that case shouldn't Murray's fight be on ITV1? Rather than tucked away on ITV4.

especially not with him being a 140-pounder

Rukundo would be a good one. I saw him fight Robert Osiobe and he would bring toughness and not in the journeyman mould either

Murray certainly needs a test rather than treading over old ground (but of course it's very short notice to ask for anything too solid).

Michael Gomez Seriously at his late notice I think the best they could hope for is someone like Darius Snarski though Mihaita Mutu would be an excellent test - maybe a bit too good though:

Felix Lora is in the frame, although nothing is confirmed (I repeat, nothing). He's a Dominican who turned pro in the States and switched to Spain earlier this year, where he's blasted a couple of opponents in the first round. He's yet to do more than six rounds and lost three (eight wins) but never been stopped.
After Fewkes, Flash Elorde would be a disappointment.

That's who I heard as well, Lora. Lost a close fight to Devon Alexander recently.

Sounds like an aggressive, strong, come forward guy who is also well traveled. Been told he's strong and fast, a fast starter. Don't know how tough/durable he is though.

Now it's Youssef Al Hamidi for Murray.

He is a horrible opponent to look good against.

How come Lora didn't end up being the opponent?

If Al Hamidi is motivated it'll be a hard fight for Murray.Hamidi is very underatted and has a knack of leaving boxers with nasty gashes on there face!! It's a good opponent seen's as it's short notice!
