Official Statement issued by the British Boxing Board Of Control
Former WBO featherweight champion Scott Harrison appeared before a tribunal of the British Boxing Board of Control at The Old Library in Cardiff yesterday afternoon on matters relating to renewal of his Professional Boxer’s Licence and allegations of misconduct.
Mr. Harrison was represented at the tribunal by Mr. Grant Jeans and his father Mr. Peter Harrison appeared as a witness on his behalf.
At the conclusion of the tribunal the Stewards determined that:-
1.Mr. Harrison was guilty of bringing the sport of boxing into disrepute.
2.The suspension imposed on his Boxer’s Licence on the 13th December 2006 would continue until the 31st January 2009 and this decision takes into account the time that his licence had already been suspended.
3.If it is Mr. Harrison’s intention to continue as a licensed boxer after this time it will be necessary for him to complete the Community Service Order imposed on him by a Court in Scotland to the satisfaction of the Community Service Officer and to provide a copy of a report to the Stewards at or before time of application.
4.With regard to outstanding matters which have not reached conclusion, in both Scotland and Spain, the Stewards may, without prejudice to any action already taken, take any further action as may be deemed appropriate having regard to all the circumstances and the Stewards will also want to take into consideration the future conduct of Mr. Harrison subsequent to the tribunal.
5.An order of costs was made against Mr. Harrison but these to be paid at a rate to be agreed from any purses earned subsequent to reinstatement of licence after the 31st January 2009.
Mr. Harrison has been reminded of his right to Appeal pursuant to the Board’s Regulation 28 and if, after the 31st January 2009, it is possible for Mr. Harrison’s Boxer’s Licence to be reinstated then licensing and medical formalities applicable to any applicant boxer or boxer renewing a licence will have to be concluded successfully
Thoughts?

As much as I'd like to see him rise from the flames, from experience alcoholics find it hard enough to stay off the booze without losing their livelihood from it.
I can't see him staying dry until Jan 09. I hope he does.

Isn't this a double punishment?
He's been found guilty and taken his punishment from the courts, so why is he now being stopped from making a living? I know he could go stack shelves in Tesco's , but boxing is where he can make the most money.

He's gone, and he deserves it.
An unsavoury character who was given plenty of chances.
Fair enough if he had tried to mend the error of his ways and come back, but he never even attempted it.

Can he not just move to the states?
Anyone can get a licence over there - including us lot and our grandmas, even the deceased ones.

Lee Hughes was back at work quicker than Harrison and he killed someone while pissed and legged it from the scene?
Boxing is Harrison's only hope of temporary salvation you would think.

I trust the BBBoC are acting in Scott's best interests.
I hope this isn't the end of Scott, I really do.... but I'd hate to see him get badly hurt in the ring because of possibly not being able to train religiously for 6 weeks... due to hangovers etc.
What I don't like about this report is no mentioning of an independent psychologist assessing him... they must have that.

He would never be allowed into the US with his criminal record. Not a chance.

Harrison can have no complaints, I've lost count of the number of times he's been accused of violent affray both home and abroad, he pissed his own manager and promoter off so much they walked away from him, he pulled out of fights again and again, and simply could not do what was asked of him, which was to stay off the drink, and out of trouble.
As far as I am aware, he still has court cases pending at the time of the hearing, so it's hardly surprising the Board have decided not to relicense him.
I have nothing against Scott personally, he has severe alcohol and addiction issues, and I wish him the best as a human being, but he is rather an embarassment to boxing.

Is it true he's banned from Glasgow pubs?

I'm not saying Harrison isn't a right pain in the ass, but i just think that this is a restraint of trade against him.
They say he has outstanding court cases which is true, but what happened with 'innocent until proven guilty'.
The board allowed a convicted rapist in Tyson to box here, when he was still on a sentence.

I think an 8 month extention to the ban seems draconian to.

I suspect that had something to do with Dead Presidents mate. Cynical, I know!

Allow me to translate for the less hip on the forum ( Goz etc).
Dead Presidents refere to Money. US Bills have the faces of Dead Presidents on them.
Yes - EPNG - its about the benjamins!

I'm not a big fan of Harrison after his violent out of the ring bullying but I also don't think its right to take away a mans livelyhood. Boxing could be something that stops Harrison from being an alchy, he needs a distraction from drinking all day

The only thing that can keep Harrison away from drink is Scott Harrison - Let's not pretend boxing is going to fix this problem for him, it hasn't so afr.
David,
Lee Hughes served jail time for his crime - It is a daily mail type of comparison to make.
He's had umpteen chances to sort himself out, and has refused help from a lot of people. Let him go out and get a normal job for 8 months, it won't hurt him - Pandering around to his needs will.

Boxing didn't stop his problems from arising, i'm not sure why some people think it's going to help them go away?
Scott Harrison has brought nothing but bad press to boxing for too long now, his WBO title reign seems a bit of a distant memory, not surprised they don't want him licensed

True but he needs a focus and life to recover from alcoholism, being a boxer that has nothing to do when not training doesnt help.
A job would help, anything to keep him busy

I disagree on the first point. If Lee Hughes had completed his term and then been banned by the FA from playing it would be equivalent.
I dont think anyone has ever hurt me as much as suggesting I've made a Daily Mail comparison.
I've never even read Mein Kampf.

the sport doesn't need people like this, it has a bad enough reputation as it is (largely undeserved-apart from the audiences!). When there's the likes of good blokes like Hatton, Calzaghe and Lockett trying to raise the profile and reputation of boxing in the UK, the last thing we need is brainless drunken thugs like Harrison dragging the sport back down.

I think the board are being unfair to Harrison with the length of this ban.
Can he get licenced to fight in an other country while he is banned here?

Naaayyyy!
I think most places uphold the BBBoc rules re: licensing etc.
Having said that - didn't Darkie Smith go over to Germany to work?
In fact - I have no idea!
