Always would be a close fight as these are 2 great fighters. Sanchez needed time to work out Nelson in the first fight. I think he'd be starting quicker. Nelson did become a better fighter so I'd imagine a close points victory or split decision for Sanchez but really this is always a keenly contested bout.

Nelson probably could have done with a few more bouts under his belt, gained a bit more experience before fancing Sanchez, but in those days, fighters were thrown in at the deep end much more so than they are in the game now!

It was a highly contested bout, but in the end, Sanchez' experience told. Not only that, both at their peak, I would pick Sanchez. Salvador was one of those rare fighters who was always calm, even when under great pressure from an opponent.

Now this topic has come up, I'm quite surprised a rematch was not tried for by team Nelson, given that Nelson fought a solid fight. In saying that, the bout took a lot out of Nelson, so maybe it might not have been a wise move to have a rematch. Nelson took quite a lot of punishment that night.

Imagine that, fighting a guy as good as Sanchez was after only having a dozen fights?
