Does anyone have any info on this heavyweight who fought in the eighties and early nineties. His early reports made him sound like a potential champ and then some , but he never panned out at all.

What do you want to know?
He was a Cali heavyweight who boxed aaaall the guys from the west coast in that period.
I didn't know he ever had a hot prospect tag, but if he did it was probably for the same reasons Mike Williams did, i.e. he was built like a Greek God.
I have a few of his fights, (Carl Williams, Jorge Luis Gonzalez etc) he was a tough, strong guy, very game, but not that much skill or stamina.
He has some respectable wins though, Mark Wills mainly, but beating Ken Lakusta and Conroy Nelson too shows he was an above average journeyman.
Mark Wills was a hard b#stard!!

I read a magazine article about him some years ago ....before he turned pro if I recall right . I am not sure but I recall the article was accompanied with an article about prospect Bernard Mays. .... seeming to put them in roughly the same class in terms of potential., even bringing up the significance of the Gans name. I checked there records and Mays and Gans did turn pro only 8 months apart. That being the case .... it could definitely be said that his pro career was a great disappointment.Makes me wonder if something went wrong along the lines of what happened to Mays.Beating a young Ken Lakusta in only his second pro fight sure was impressive.

Mike Gans has been a very close friend of mine for over three years. Refering to his career, Mike would have done a lot better if he had kept his mind in the game, but he let outside influences dictate his performance to much. Unfortunatly some things don't change much, but he is doing OK.
