Didn't we have a legal issue with someone saying that last year, or was I dreaming?

oj could of won a british title if he was managed properly early on but he wasn't and he new that so decided to take the fights at short notice offten saving the show?????
so how can you say he's conned the public/promoters you mug he's earned a good living out of boxing and he's still got all his marbles and thats what it is all about

im not sure he has all of his marbles to be honest, sounds a bit slurred to me but thats all part and parcel of the game and he is no different from a hundred other experienced pros.

i dont think im a mug for thinking he has conned the public, i put it to you all that the last fight ojay actually tried to win was the bout against farnell or perhaps the fight with john boy humphrey.

the rest have been ticking over cheque claiming fights with no effort to win, this is disappointing as i know ojay has the talent and the punch to go one better than he has, he has definately under achieved as far as his career is concerned...just look at his record !!!

his one round 'give up' against darren barker was shocking !!!!!

and his mysterious 'give up' against an all but beaten marlon hayes was equally shocking !!!!!

im hardly a mug, im just an honest critique, and i think the same about buckley et al. ojay has indeed saved a few shows, but he has also stunk a few shows out !!!!!

give me one of the smith brothers anyday, they take their medicine and still come back for more leather.

are you all with me or agin me ?? or are you all on the fence as usual....

I think it was a bit OTT of you in your initial post, but yes i am not happy with journeymen who dont turn up to win.

I initially thought you were just pointing fingers at OJ but like you say there are many more like him.

The whole journeyman thing irritates me sometimes, especially when i see them earning more than really talented fighters who's promoters can barely afford opponents.

But like they say, dont hate the player, hate the game.....

You cannot blame the journeyman for picking up his pay cheque.... blame the promoters for putting on the fights where the winner is 100% certain before the bell goes and of course blame the fans for turning up and paying for the shit.

I stopped going to shows regularly around 2001 as i was sick to death of the "Prospect v Nobby Nobbs" scenario.

i do agree with you knockout, at least we see less of nobby at the big shows now, not that i dont like the bloke, i just dont like the foregone conclusions. i was not directly aiming my comments at ojay, but he is as much to blame.

Rhino, as i recall, u was mouthing off that no promoter was going to allow Ojay to have his 100!! Stuck on 99 like Beckham u said!!

So whatever u say doesnt really carry any weight!! You keep going on about Ojay retiring in 2 fights out of 99!! Come on, you can do better than that..

There maybe alot of journeymen, but only one Ojay!! He has entertained many and won a title some years ago.. And as for him slurring... have u spoken to him lately? I saw him at the dinner show on friday, where his brother won the Southern area title against Andrew Lowe, and his speech is probably better than yours!!

Good On you Ojay.. you have many fans, people like Rhino have a grudge (u know what i mean) and are just envious!!!

It is not in my nature to disrespect any pro fighter. That said, I've been at certain cards where OJ has been, shall we say, not looking for the win.

In some ways, that seems worse than the Nobby Nobbs camp , who are simply limited with a cross arm defence, but I've been at OJ fights where he could clearly have landed a counter-punch (right hook when a newbie has missed with the cross and has over-reached) and chose not to.

ITs not a big deal, and I can appreciate the economics that cause that to happen, but how does he keep the right down when he knows it could land a bomb?

Rhino, I don't have a problem with you having an opinion mate, but his speech is fine.

When did it seem 'slurred' to you?

Well for entertainment value, I've had my share out of OJ.
I think Rhino's comments are out of order, be they directed straight at OJ, or any other boxers for that matter.
We've had this debate about journeymen over several threads and several years.
The business needs them end of shift.
Bless him, I will never forget the Ronaldo left back heel aimed precisely at Brendan Ingle's chin through the ropes during the Rhodes fight.
Stick to finding out every three months how your buddy Claude is Rhino !

I haven't always appreciated some of OJ's bending of the rules, but I take my hat off to him for reaching 100 fights. Fantastic achievement. Caused a good few upsets on the way before becoming a losing journeyman.

All hell broke loose in his second fight with Wayne Alexander. One of the most exciting fights I've seen live.

oh yeah that was down at crystal palace wasnt it!!!

great fight...Wayne getting careless and caught and then coming back with some wicked body shots if i recall???

first fight was funny too.... Ojay just got him in the corner and whacked him in the jewels.. thankfully Wayne has since had a lovely daughter so no damage done ;-)
