Well if it is the retirement of Wayne, then i wish him all the best, one of the biggest punchers in recent years

im sorry to see wayne go, i dont know him as a friend but do know him well enough to say hello and have a few words each time we have met.

wayne was not the most gifted of boxers, but he was certainly one of the most gifted of punchers, fantastic memories...like when he nearly decapitated takaloo, like when he stopped pizzamiglio in a european title fight, and when he fought harry simon at short notice, and so nearly did the business when he detonated a huge right hook onto the chin of simon, unfortunately simons head was made of stern stuff and wayne went on to get beat.

how i wish wayne had fought anthony farnell, both men had been on tv threatening to KO the other, it was built as a massive domestic fight, but unfortunately, it was another big domestic one that never happened. im sure it would have been another christie/kaylor.

good luck wayne in which ever direction life takes you, good health and happiness and thanks for the memories mate.

Could have done a lot more could Alexander. I believe he didn't live the boxing life like he should have.

Wish him the best in his retirement.

I was wondering recently what had happened to him. I still see that Takaloo KO in my dreams. BAM!

Despite the feeling of under achievement Wayne still had a cracking career, both amateur and pro. ABA title then onto Southern Area Title, British title and European title and a very, very late notice world title challenge to a solid champion. Tremendous stuff.

Also generated loads of excitement on the way. He'll be sorely missed, but thanks for some great memories.

Cracking fight was Simon-Alexander. As you say, Wayne landed flush and seemed to get Simon's attention, but Simon just overwhelmed him with a massive workrate.

Sadly Alexander will be remembered as much for being in an era/weight when the great fights were not delivered, as for his massive punch power.

He's had the look of a fighter who needs to get out, so good luck to him.

He was always exciting to watch.

the fight with paul samuels was the best.

3 rd classic that.

gave harry simon a decent argument at short notice.

shame he couldn't capitalise on that euro title win.

also didn't help that light middle was always really strong in his day.

a young alexander now may have had a slight chance against guys like phillips.

now wayne has retired it would be great to see him posting on the net forums again, always nice when the boxers have some input.

Wayne has admitted he could have applied himself more in training, thats why he struggled sometimes, but when he did get himself in tip top shape he was a handfull for anyone.
Shame he never really built on his showing against Simon, but the champs at that time were people like De La Hoya, Trinidad, Vargas and Wright. So he would have been up against it there.

I disagree, think EBU level was the maximum his talent could take him.

He didn't have the fastest hands and his footwork wasn't the greatest.

And thats not mentioning his chin.

Very good fighter up to his level. Would have cleaned out the domestic LMW div, even now.

You think he would have beaten Moore, or are you just getting a bit nostalgic?

Moore would have beaten him pretty handily.

The point being that other than a short notice tilt at Simon he didn't have/grasp the opportunity.
He never fought regularly at either domestic or European level, leaving some mouthwatering fights going cold, the Farnell fight is brought to mind.
I am not trying to say he would have won world titles etc not even won all the domestic and Euro match ups, but I would have loved to see him try, that is where the 'what if' comes from

Good luck Wayne. An exciting puncher who did well with his abilities. I thought when he moved to Breen's gym he might get the dedication to better himself but it never materialised. He should do some cornerwork and pass his experience on to youngsters.

exactly, the opponent always had a chance against wayne, but equally wayne always had a punchers chance against the best of them out there.

I dunno, Alexander in his prime vs Moore in his prime. Would've been a CRACKER.

Give Wayne a serious challenge and he always responds. Had the power to take out any Light middle in Europe at the blink on an eye.

By coincidence I just happended to come across his knock out of Takaloo last night. Awesome performance.

Good puncher but what knockout proof/sturdy chin fighter did he decimate for all this hype about his equaliser

His KO of Takaloo was the best I've ever seen live( watching on TV) and Takaloo was solid domestic/fringe European but nobody else stands out for me on his record for hi to get teh acclaim he does

However, it must be said I have only seen him against 5 odd opponents( Bladt, McDonagh, Takaloo, Mellis and Howard Clarke)
