This is my first post here. Just wanted to get your views on Bernard Dunne and where he could go. Will he be able to re capture his eurpean belt and can he move onto world level? Does anybody know who he may be fighting in his fight on the 12th of july?

I'd like to see him face Rendall Munroe. It's very winnable.

Some of the top guys at 122 are serious hitters and he'd have to so improvement to compete with them after the debacle against the Spanish guy.

Yes he needs some more power for sure. His height advantage that he generally has over the guy at super bantam helps him alot to. Look at he comparison in bulk between munroe and dunne , its unbelievable that there in the same division.

I don't see why he cannot capture a "world" title in this era of dozens of titles. I think it is logical to get him back in for the European first though. I imagine they will get him in with another international opponent, along the lines of Machado, then provided he wins look to match him with Munroe for the European title or perhaps get him in with McCullough who keeps throwing his hat into the ring for fights.

he has already won one of the dozens of world titles the ibo i think it was, and he looked good in his last fight, i think the martinez fight was a blip in his carreer albeit a bad one having been ko,d but one of his sparring partners who has and still is competing at top domestic level told me he thinks hes truly world class and far superior to any one hes fought domestically and that includes hunter and pickering so on seeing dunne box and on this info i predict hed have no trouble regaining his euro crown and being in with a seriose shout at a real world title.

He wont win a major unfortuantely, you cant teach a poor chin.

i agree you cant teach a poor chin, but martinezes record suggests hes a serious banger, anyone will go if cought right, and you can learn not to stick it out though.hey im not suggesting dunne is going to be the next superstar just that he may be heavilly involved in the s/bantam mix,

I think it was the esteemed IBC title he once held. If it's vacant then perhaps he can win it back?

yea thats right the one lennox lewis held. hy i dont wont to be defending bd just trying to make an objective argument onto how good he is!

Personally I think Bernard has great skills, yea his chin is weak but he can learn to defend it and if he builds his power then i think he can be world champion at some stage.

I have noticed that Dunne fans seem to think Munroe is a soft touch, but I would go on record and sate that at this stage Munroe would work Dunne over for a comfortable 12 round decision.

I like Dunne, he has flashes of brilliance, but he is suspect in the stamina department and he is also quite easy to tag - Two traits that are not going to help him in a Munroe fight.

Just something that came into my mind was, with mculloch looking to get back in ring maybe a fight between dunne and mcculloch and then the winner to fight munroe anybody think this could happen?

I think I'd go for Munroe too - it might not be a great fight, but I think Rendall would have the edge on stamina and effort and would be able to grind it out over the distance. The only thing is, Dunne has already been humiliated at European level by a guy Munroe bat comfortably, so its not really a fight that he should be rushing to take!

The excuse that was given by pundits and dunne himself was that against martinez he was caught cold and some said that the time it took for him to get to the ring after leaving his dressing room was a factor . What are your views on this? If i remember correctly martinez said that he taught dunnes chin was weak and that he was going for the ko, in fact his camp had money on a ko within 3 rounds. So why did dunne come out with his hands around his waist?

Munroe would beat Dunne for my money, but it's no foregone conclusion. Wonder who Peters will fetch in for him on July 12th?

Rumour is http://www.boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?hu ... &cat=boxer which would be a huge fight , ranked 6th by the WBO and 11th by the WBA and he can clearly bang too .

Whether Dunne would beat Munroe or not(50/50 for me) it appears Maloney wants no part of it and considering Kiko Martinez is the European mandatory, Dunne will have to wait quite some time to fight Munroe and so Peters wants to push Dunne towards a World title fight .
I can't see Dunne winning a World title as things stand but if it's true that , that is what Peters' wants to do then it makes sense in gambling with a dangerous opponent in Escalante , as bar winning back the European title the only way to move up the WBO rankings(when you don't have connections) is to beat other WBO ranked fighters) . Of course beating Escalante would put Dunne back in the WBA rankings too .

Is that rumored to be the fight for 12th of july or down the line? Quite a young fighter only 23.

He should fight McCullough.

I would love to see Dunne go in against Munroe and I actually think it would be closer than people think and closer than the Martinez fights shown us. Perhaps Dunne should try and get Martinez back because it could be a way back for the winner with a shot at Munroe.

As far as I know there was a rematch offered by Kiko's people but Dunne didn't take it up at the time

Bernard has One main weakness, his chin, if someone detonates it could be goodnight Vienna!! Minroe is not a puncher in any way shape or form. Bernard is quicker punches harder and is an all round better fighter. Watch the Pickering fight, a masterclass against a quality opponent(arguable taking a lot out of Esham)

Be interesting to see what the Martinez shellacking took out of him.

It's ok saying he will school Munroe but if he becomes gunshy/afraid of getting hit then this will negate the effectiveness of his offensive work and could make the fight closer.

I think that was the kind of defeat that permanently damages a fighter.
