This isn't so much about any given last round in a bout, as it is about the last scheduled round.

I re-visited De La Hoya-Quartey a few days ago, & that final round really was something else. It's too bad they didn't do a Legendary Nights doco on this fight, the whole thing was enthralling.

Some others I've re-watched in the last few weeks...

The louis/schmelling fight II had a dramatic last round but as it was also the first round maybe that shouldn't count.

This is about the last round in a fight which lasts until the final scheduled round, only. Louis-Conn I didn't make it to round fifteen.

oops...sorry...didn't read it clearly enough.

LaMotta-Dauthuille II... real dramatic how LaMotta gets him with only seconds remaining and with Dauthuille winning the fight, and it was a KO and not a TKO, unlike Chavez-Taylor, so there was no room for controversy.
Ali-Norton II... one of the most important rounds in Ali's career where he came out blasting in the 12th round against Norton, if he hadn't done that he would have lost the fight and his career would have been over.
Ali-Shavers... Ali apparently knew he was ahead because of the open scoring on TV, but he was hurt and needed to survive the round and he not only did but he ended it by hurting Shavers badly.
Weaver-Tate... supposedly the only come from behind 15th round KO in Heavyweight title fight history.
Leonard-Hearns II... the last round got Leonard the terrible decision, but the way Leonard fought in that round was still respectable, and if it had been a 15 rounder you figure Leonard would have probably stopped Tommy again...
Holyfield-Bowe... surprising that Holyfield didn't get his fist stuck in Bowe's stomach, that's how hard he was hitting him.
De La Hoya-Mosley II... Mosley is usually a storm in the 12th round of a fight, he even beat Winky in those rounds if I remember right; I was surprised that he didn't press more in the 12th round of the Cotto fight, not sure if it would have won him the fight or not.
Barrera-Morales III... Barrera almost went down, if he had Morales would have won the trilogy, but Barrera stayed up and got Morales on the ropes and blasted away... great ending to the best trilogy of the decade.
Vazquez-Marquez III... I'm kind of surprised at how Marquez fought that round, but Vazquez was just a pitbull there, I guess Marquez couldn't have done much with him. Again, fitting end to a great trilogy; though it might not yet be over.

I'm trying to avoid fights that were already named, but Holmes-Norton and Chavez-Taylor are really two of the best example of a great last round where the fight is on the line.

Marciano-Walcott 1, maybe not the best round of all time, but by far the greatest kayo of all time
