Margarito stripped.

Not sure if this is old news - and although I haven't read confirmation - it seems like only Cotto's WBA title is on the line when these two fight.

Looks like the IBF title will be contested between Zab Judah and Joshua Clottey in August. That should be a good one.

Maybe an avenue there for Ricky should he wish to mix it with the big boys at 147. Or of course Witter.

The IBF is strip happy. In my opinion they have the worst set of champions out of the big four and they are getting worse all the time.

just another joke by a sanctioning body, if Margarito had kept his IBF title then whoever wins between him and Cotto would have become a WBA 'super' champion, leaving the WBA title vacant.

Or something like that, it gives me a headache trying to work it all out.

Actually we already have 2 WBA champions, Miguel Cotto and the 'interim' champ Yuriy Nuzhnenko who has beaten Frederic Klose and drew with Irving Garcia , so hardly in the same league as Cotto.
And there is vertually no chance of these 2 meeting as Nuzhnenko brings nothing to the table. But that doesn't stop the WBA cashing in twice with sanctioning fees.

Does Mayweather Jnr still hold the WBC title? only his next fight isn't till september and it's with De la Hoya , i thought that fight was at a catchweight above welter.

The IBF are probably just enforcing mandatories or they strip them.

The fans want big fights and the titles on the lines but rules still have to be enforced.

Clottey was Cintrons mandatory and would have fought Cintron for the IBF if Margarito lost. Margarito won and had to face the mandatory to keep the belt. Arrum doesn't want him to face Clottey, so hes stripped.

Still we get to see 2 great fights, with or without a title.
I used to be able to name each holder of the big 4 sanctioning bodies titles, don't think i could name half now

The IBF is a joke - any time they seem to get a good champion they strip him. But I reckon they only became so "strip-happy" since they were investigated by the FBI and were found to be corrupt. So now they've over compensated by being too strict in enforcing their own rules.

true, its a good job the WBO don't have the same policy else Calzaghe would have been stripped years ago.

Screw the Alphabet boys. Margarito-Cotto is a must for fight fans. :box:

The titles are of no consequence in match-up of this calibre.

I would've liked this to be billed as a unification fight because that would pressure Mayweather to consider Cotto if he starts to unify belts around him. If Cotto comes through this then he's got to start looking for fights against belt holders - I hope Clottey beats Judah and then faces Cotto. But this fight needs to happen, so screw the belts and let the IBF strip him (fair play to them actually) and let's get it on. I would actually give my arms to charity to see this fight - it will be freaking massive.

I think the IBF don't take a percentage, only a fee (but I might be getting them confused with the IBO). If that's the case, I can (sort of) understand them stripping him because he won't face his mandatory.

However, if they receive a percentage instead, like the WBC, there's no excuse as they'd have made more money.

I think the WBO and WBA also only charge a fee, not 100% sure on the latter though.

I'm just delighted and thrilled to see this classic is pushing ahead with or without titles on the line.
