Just thought with little going on after the Hatton fight might be worth starting something about the decent British fights coming up, even if we have lost McIntyre/Brook.

SIMPSON/APPLEBY - June 6th

Good fight this one, will the experience of Simpson be too much for the young gun, or does Tommy Gilmour think he has a superstar on his hands.
Hard one to call, fancied Simpson when it was first announced but now not so sure, its almost a pick em fight for me.

OAKEY/FRANCIS - June 13th

Oakey will come forward all night and if Francis has trouble with his shoulder still then can he keep Oakey off with just the one good hand, I am not sure he can and go for Oakey on points in this one.

LIMOND/EARL - June 14th

Limond has too much left in the tank for me and I fancy him to stop Earl in the second half of the fight.

ELCOCK/McDERMOTT - JUNE 20TH

Will Elcock be able to hold off the talented local rivan in this cracking midlands derby. I am not sure in this one to be honest but having listened to some of you boys who know McDermott well, he would seem to be a fractional favourite.

KHAN/GOMEZ - JUNE 21st

Not going to get into the politics of should it should'nt it have happened but Khan insdie three rounds.

PRYCE/PORTMAN - JUNE 21st

If Portman can get into the fight this could be better than it looks on face value, having said that I still favour Pryce strongly and perhaps a 7th or 8th round stoppage.

PICKERING/MARSH - JUNE 27TH

Puzzles me this one, just how much has Pickering got left, if the answer is the same as the Hughes double header then I can see Marsh pulling the upset here and go for Marsh on pts.

WILLIAMS/MCDERMOTT - JULY 4TH

Williams should be too good but if the Mr Kipling van has made a recent delviery to the Williams household shortly before the fight then McDermott if he can get out of the first three rounds can win this. Still assuming Danny is in shape you have to fancy him strongly.

NORTON/STEEDS - July 11th

Norton for me in this one as I think if he is on song and it's his last chance he should outbox Steeds for enough of the fight to win about 116-112 on points.


We tend to neglect our bread and butter fights sometimes and the all British title fights are often good value and just thought it was worth trying to drum up some debate on any of the above.

Sorry mate, but if that's a list of 'good' British fights the domestic game is in a world of trouble.

Hardly a list of stellar names is it?

I would only buy a ticket for two of those.

Some decent stuff, for sure, but nothing particularly spectatular.

Pickering - Marsh should be an interesting one, likewise Earl - Limond.

I kind of agree- bread and butter stuff. Lets hope that they can support these well with some good, competative bouts on the undercard.

Is Earl vs. Limond on the tv as it would be a shame to let this one go by without a view.

the nice thing is, it does not matter what level the fight is, it does not matter if the fighters are household names....

its all about 50/50 fights and the majority of these listed fights are competetive.

remember the prizefighter night, possibly one of my best nights of live televised boxing, and not a household name amongst the fighters, but just good honest pros in 50/50 matches, and the boys went in there to win !! that is the big difference to the usual pump we are served up.

That was the point I was trying to make about them being decent competitive fights, I was not indicating it was big name time but I'll wager most of them will be more exciting and competitive than either Ricky or Juniors last fight, still not to worry just thought as it was British scene it was worth a dicussion
