I was trying to clear up some of Willard record. He has a 10 round no-contest with the tough Carl Morris. does any one know who got the news paper decision?

Also Willard fought Arthur Pelkey to a no-decision. Again, any one know who got the news paper decision?

Greatly appreciated...

6 pack...the Carl Morris fight is listed as a no decision, not a no contest, which is what I think you meant to say, as you have it right with Pelkey. I think I read some time ago that the press gave it to Willard, but found him unimpressive. To be fair to Willard, because of his size he seldom was called "impressive' because with that height and weight advantage so much more was expected of him. I'm digging into the reports of fighters of that era and maybe I'll have better information in the future. I do have him on film against Frank Moran, also a ND but Willard handled him easily, though he didn't look as if he had much fire in the belly...just seemed kind of indifferent..content to poke his jab out and go to a decision.

We all know he had heart....getting up from the massacre Demspey laid on him still fills me with awe.

Thanks Jaclem. yeah I meant to write no-decision. I am trying to clear up some of those guys records. Listing the newspaper decisions on their records.

As for WIllard fighting indifferent with Moran...I think he really did not attack much after killing Bull Young. Before his fight with Dempsey he said something along the lines of
"Look, I killed a man, so I am going to carry this guy 12 and get the decision. I don't want to hurt any body"

Most from that time thought Willard would kill Dempsey. WIllard was pretty hurt by the death of Young. He would win by decision if he did not have to KO his opponent.

I figured he would beat Morris. Please get back to me with any more info you find about these no-decisions, much appreaciated.

Willard-Morris. Arizona Republic (AP Wire service) has the following. Willard was given the newspaper decision, keeping Morris at a distance. Newspaper reporters had 8 rounds Willard, 1 even and the 3rd Round for Morris.

Nothing in the paper on Pelkey.
