Gomez, now 37, was scheduled to fight Vladimir Virchis in a WBC eliiminator. What happened to that fight?

Does Gomez have any ambition at all? He seems to be following the Kirk Johnson, Lawrence Clay-Bey, Gerald Nobles route to obscure oblivion.

I posted the same topic on the current scene a few months back - its funny the answer I got was in your title - crack! Shame though - what a waste of talent. I would have liked him to clean up at crusier before he moved up but he should have fought for a major version of the heavyweight title a long time ago!

Ok, we have the update:

It looks like the final WBC heavyweight elimination bout between Vladimir Virchis and Juan Carlos Gomez, will take place on September 27th, at a venue in Germany. Gomez signed for the fight today. The fight was originally slated for March 8th, however both fighters balked at the preparation time for that bout and it was eventually decided to push the bout back to September because the summer months will be preoccupied by the Olympic Games in Beijing, China.

Exactly how does the Olympics in China have any bearing on these guys fighting each other?

Not enough time to prepare-- so put the fight back SIX months??? With JCG already 37?!

Neither of these guys are serious fighters, what a frickin waste.
