Under todays market is there still big money out there for fighters, who has the biggest cheque book and balls.

Hennessey Sports accounts do not look too promising, come to that neither does Sports Network.

Although the rumour out there is Haye and Booth paid George Groves £25K signing bonus and £25K per fight for his next 6 fights so that is a total of £175K are they laying down a behchmark and will other fighters get the same deal, if they are paying this to an untested first timer what will they pay an established Champion.

If I was starting out on my career again I would certainly choose this path as long as I got the same deal as Groves.

My biggest ever purse was £23k for a televised title defence.

I was once offered a big money deal but the money was at the end of the rainbow not when I needed it and guess what??? I never even saw the Rainbow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good luck to Groves but he is no Nigel Benn come to that not even a Steve Collins.

Are those figures right? Dapug, By the sounds of it you have alot more knowledge of how the game works than me.
But that price seems way over the top, if Hayemaker have given Groves that sort of purse than they must have more money then sense.

By paying more than other promoters I am almost certain they will get better results. If more of our young boxers were paid these types of figures they could dedicate themselves to training and being in the best possible shape, rather than have to worry about working a job outside of boxing.

He'd earn it within 6 months too, potentially. So the promoter is £275k invested after 6-12 months? Unless Groves starts with a 2000 ticket support I cannot see how this can be subsidised.

The average successful bid for a British title fight over the last 18 months or so, has been £35,000.
60% to the defending champ = £21,000 (gross).
From that the average deduction for Managers, Trainers, fees etc is 20% so already you re down to £16,800.
Then pay your tax etc, and it isn't as big a pay day as you think.
The deal for Groves (if true, and I have yet to believe this) is good, but it's about market forces.
If there are 3 or more Promotors interested, then inevitably the price goes up if you want to secure your purchase.

If Groves has got this deal then fair play to him, its got me thinking maybe Hayemaker is showing something to the Olympians going to Bejing, kind of a 'look how much we are paying' .
Trying to take the play away from the other promoters.

Forget the rumor about the £25k to Groves the talk of the Olympic Village is that Hennessey Sports have offered Frankie Gavin £85k signing fee even if he does not box or win anything at this years Olympics.

Would this be a good business decision or the act of a drowning man.

Quite a few people have claimed to have Gavin signed up but if this rumor is true there is only one place he will be going.

But then would £85k be enough to make you put up with a second class outfit, please remind me or Frankie Gavin were is the original class of 2002???

Its certainly going to get interesting after the Olympics, it'll be a right scrap between the promoters.

£85k is good if he doesnt medal in the olympics

but if he gets gold then its peanuts, he could get 5 times as much - obvoiously none of them will earn what khan has, but thats just down to marketability

Not always David... I think promoters like to make a statement and will pay over the odds to do so on occassion, particulalry when they are just coming into the sport.

There were rumours flying around about Hennessy when they started out. Before that Lion were trying to make some big signings. Now it's Haye.

It seems, though, that they all lose money in the end. The money flows to the fighters! In this case, the fighter is looking to get even more of it by doing it himself.

And I don't think 85k is a lot for Gavin is it? He is the highest profile signing possible I'd say, (for an amateur).

I still dont think Haye will sell out 20,000 tickets. What prices will they do tickets for? Promotion harder than he thin ks.

Agreed, Leforge, but surely a lot depends upon the strength of the undercard when Haye headlines, and most important of all, who is stood in the other corner.

Interesting bit here with George Groves, this was just after his win at the ABA's . So it shows Hayemaker must of made him a decent offer to make him turn pro.

Haye or Booth do not like to spent to much money on the undercard, That was one of the reasons Maloney could not get on with them. Every one in boxing knows that they did not want to put anything on the undercard of the wembley bill. And Maloney paid out of his own pocket for the none British Tile Fight. Oakey got his money but it was not Booth or Haye who paid it.And make fighter cover there purses with ticket sales or they had to have less money. Ask Warren how many ticket Haye sold for the O2 fight, If a fight was not added to the bill the place would have been half full.

There tight gets If thats true. Before Mormeck he should of had no bargaining position to do that.

There's a lot of info flying around, specific figures being quoted, and allegations being made.
The internet is a place where anonimity can be used by people, often to stir up trouble.
I have no idea who people such as boxwills are, but he is a new poster and every post seems to be "controversial" in terms of content.

They did say it was a 'rumoured' figure, but they must have some info of its around that figure.

I noticed the 'up to' £13M - no doubt it is all dependant on Haye wining the World Title.

In that case, £13M for 4 fights is decent not obscene.
