THE HEAVYWEIGHT TOP 10- HOW BAD? HOW GOOD? HOW BEATABLE?

Would you guys basically go along with this line up?

1 Wlad k
2 Peter
3 Chagaev
4 Sultan ibragimov
5 Alex povetkin
6 John ruiz
7 Golota
8 Oleg maskaev
9 Nikolay valuev
10 JC Gomez

Shower of shite i know. The independent fightnews rankings have unproven fellas like Dimitrenko way too high IMO so this is more 'who is the best' based.

Somewhat reluctant to put Peter above Chagaev who i think could make him look stupid but everyone seems to have Peter at #2.

Ibragimov a bit more proven than Povetkin, so above him.

Love him or hate him, Ruiz easily but boringly took care of McCline and still knows how to win fights, beat Valuev IMO etc.

Valuev rated low cos he has been steered away from punchers and carefully matched, and i think the likes of Golota and Maskaev really could chin him.

By #10 i'd already ran out of names. JC Gomez? Skelton? Rahman or Toney?! Virchis? Briggs? Most of them seem on the way down.

No David Haye as a total question mark at heavy.

Also made me question his intentions, so intent at fighting Rahman who you simply cant fit into any genuine top 10 because of his recent showings, kayo loss to Big O, basically shopsoiled feel. Hmmmm....

For all his indifferent form Hasim Rahman would be a terrific first scalp.

After all he's the last person to beat Lennox Lewis and has some other credible names on his record too. He's big, known and talks the talk. It would be a good promotion if they could get him.

I'd go straight for him or Golota personally. Worn, well known, still dangerous but beatable with form and motivation issues.

I'd argue both would be better known to the average joe than any of the champions.

I agree with all your logic for why Rahman is a good fight, my point is that you just cant shove him in a genuine top 10 because he just cant win in there anymore.

Maybe his jackpot right hand would flatten Valuev though. Gomez too, if he coudl catch up with him.

Recent showings make it unlikely though. Similar to Tua.

I'd have Tony Thompson in there instead of Golota.
Thompson has a decent run going wins over Guinn, Ibragimov and Krasniqi. Think he'll prove a tough test for Klitschko in his upcoming fight, i'm even going to have a cheeky bet on him

Ok Rahman's recent showings haven't been great but you have Golota as your number 7 heavyweight? Surely Chambers or Thompson could replace Golota? I'm not sure many people would complain if Haye took on Rahman as his first fight at heavy - would still be the best win by a British heavy since Williams beat Tyson.

Yeah the divison sucks at the moment but lets hope they all get a bit more active, this transitional stage has been going on for ages now.

Thompson looks like another Ray Austin. Big gangly guy with nothing overly impressive on his record.

Guinns name had already been severely devalued before Thompson got to him IMO. Think Thompson is way too unproven to put in there.

Agreed. I'd put Brock in there too.

The second generation isn't looking bad with Solis, Johnson (a VERY good jab, but a lazy toad), Estrada (if he can stay off the pies) and Walker.

Chris' next fight'll be interesting. The winner of that will probably enter the same bracket as Solis, etc.

Watched Estrada's last couple of fights, now thats a guy with alot of acne on his face and back for a 27 year old, makes me wonder.

I wouldn't say Thompson is to inexperienced, he's one of the only american heavies to travel to Germany to take on one of there's and win.

Might be because of his diet Ian. It's hardly fruit and veg from what I've heard.

If he could get down to 220, and had a decent punch, he'd be a top 5 contender.

Would you honestly rate him in the top onm the basis of 23 wins over nobody other than Cliff Couser?

Really??

Brock's retired. Blinded in one eye permanently after taking accurate shots by Eddie Chambers, I believe.

I think interesting matchups can be made with these 4 fighters: Chagaev, Klitschko, Povetkin, and Haye

I think Peter vs Chagaev and Povetkin would be fun fights but for the most part Peter is just way too sluggish and lead-footed for the most part.

Wary Wlad is as timid as a virgin in a whorehouse but I think Chagaev, Povetkin, and Haye are all dangerous fights for him, and Wlad's most entertaining fights were his KO losses to Sanders and Brewster.

I do fear that Povetkin could have an embarassing knockout loss when he steps up to face a real power hitter. He really comes in squared up.

Ibragimov was entertaining until the Austin debacle turned him into a safety-first snooze.

After that it's total garbage. I don't see how anyone can possibly get excited about the likes of Arreola, Estrada or Dimitrenko.

Not seen Thompson fight then? He looks horrible, hes going to get destroyed by Wlad, he doesnt even have a punchers chance

Yeah i've seen Thompson fight, and your correct in some ways, he's not a great heavyweight and doesn't have an exciting style, but i do think he's well trained , dedicated, good jab, decent chin and has power when he wants to use it.
He'll bring more heart than Ibragimov and Austin.

Feel free to take the micky next month if it all goes wrong for Thompson, but i think you could all be surprised by his challenge

I'd say Thompson has to be in there, and would argue that Williams is at least as worthy of inclusion as Golota. The funiest thing is that Maskaev is even considered!

Bit of a blog written by Tony Thompson , about his recent press confrences in Germany and Ukraine, quite amusing.

All those boxers have major faults but Wlad is the best of a very bad bunch indeed. Although, I like Chagaev as well and Povetkin is the best prospect, so perhaps he could do big things along with Haye.
