Cards in SA

Hey guys when and are there any good pro boxing cards here in Adelaide ?

I know we have a good regular amateur circuit, but it has been some time since
I have been to a pro show. I think that last time was at Morphet Ville back in 2001 (?)

In any case, thanks and take care

There were 3 shows last year, 1 in 2006 & 1 in 1005.
Just not enough local boxers to put a card together. Bringing in interstate combatants is too costly & probably wouldn't generate a good gate. SA legislation doesn't help either........each interstate combatant needs a brain scan, therefore promoter would need to charge $60 to $70 general admission just to cover costs, which I doubt Croweaters would pay.

Terry Fox put on 2 of the shows last year & lost heaps.

I shall have to keep my ears peeled for the next show.

Thanks for that.

I know that the Knees of Fury promoter with his shows
has the same dilema. I suppose that sponsors are the
keys...but at the moment not to many businesses are
very generous.

Sponsorship has never been easy in Adelaide.
I did all the chasing in early 90's for Ringside Promotions, which usually held the shows at ABCOS

The legislation needs to be changed if we are to ever get a decent pro circuit in Adelaide these days. That's the first step.
The second is hope that we get some more pro's, as said, there's just not enough - what have we got right now? Yakubu, Sanders, Wallace (IF he does come back). I can't think of anyone else off-hand and if we do they're not regular fighters.
It would be good if we could have enough to even get one or two pro fights on some of our amateur nights.
Another problem is, IMO, most of our amateurs just aren't good enough compared to the rest of Australia and I believe that would probably translate into the pro's for the most part. That's not by any means the fault of the boxers involved, it's just we don't have the quantity to produce the higher end talent such as say Qld or NSW. Our only real consistent high performer these days is probably Biddle.
Hope this isn't taken as a stab at any of our boxers either - by no means is that what I'm doing, just stating an opinion. Plus I'm one of the lesser quality boxers in SA so I think I'd be a hypocrite if I was.

All Adelaide needs is a young buck like Porky in Melbourne that will generate a good following & it'll spark up again.
Palmer is another that's got a good following. 60+ traveled to Sunshine Coast (Qld) for his recent fight.

Porky is a good look & can frigging punch, hence the huge following.

Hy guys where are some of these pro gyms in SA located ?

I live south of Adelaide and coach MMA at Willunga (I fight MMA) but
I love boxing and wish to get as much training as I can.

I know we have a gym at Morphet Vale.

Joe BULL coaches an amateur at our gym and have picked up
a bit from him.

I really look forward to SA having some good pro cards.

Thanks again guys

I know that the Glenelg boxing club has been known to train pro's as has Foxy's at Pooraka and Stumpy at Smithfield. Not sure of any others that have/do train pro's.

Thanks guys much appreciated.

While Taffy Davis was still butchering a few years back
and I was out on deliviries he would always pull me aside
and offer me pointers. Its always interesting watching a
guy throw a jab with a knife in his hand and a steel in the
other :)

Was a good experience to listen and learn those small
bits and pieces from him.
