Julio Cesar Gonzalez who has LOST his last two fights is yet again fighting in an eliminator for the IBF title. He's fighting the undefeated, but untested Tarvoris Cloud (great name) - In August.

This is his 6th fight that has had some sanctioning with the IBF... He's currently 2-3.

It smacks of McCullough, he kept getting hammered then getting another world title shot as well.

Well to be fair, McCulloughs were years, and a few wins normally apart and I think he was only twice a mandatory and one was following a controvesial loss (to Zaragoza). He wasn't manadatory for the WBO Feather shots or for Larios.

I think McCullough just about warranted his shots, due to the close nature of his Super Bantam losses..... Gonzales has lost widely and has now lost back to back.

Jameel McCline seems to be getting the same treatment at heavy.
Loses 2 heavyweight challenges in a run and rewared with an eliminator, which he lost.

Thing is niether McCline or Julio Cesar Gonzalez are very good to watch, but they are a promoters dream, durable and unlikely to beat their man.

This is why Im always amazed when people immediately write off losing Champions careers. I think we have over-reacted with Witter and Woods' defeats in saying they have little chance of getting back in there. Personally I think no matter who they beat in their comeback wins they will be given an eliminator of sorts.

With Witter there is that Commonwealth champ from Nigeria who is well ranked, who was calling him out wasn't there? A fight with him and Id imagine he would be back in there. Likewise with Woods Im sure if he wins his comeback the IBF will have him in an eliminator.

Exactly, these fighters step up and get found out, then they beat two or three fighters who aren't even in the top 20 and get back in the mix. Witter could certainly get back in there if he's hungry, but time is not on his side.

Huh?

Woods and Witter where the champions, they where not stepping up to fight Tarver and Bradley.

I suspect woods will get back in the mix because the IBF have history with Woods and going over old ground - Witter on the other hand will strugge and have to sit on a ranking hoping a mandatory falls his way, like you say time isn't on his side.

Golota is the king though. Three world title shots in a row, all losses.

Which raises and interesting question, has ANY fighter fought all of Tyson-Lewis-Bowe-Holyfield quartet.

I know Golota has 3 of them? Did anyone fight all of them?

I cannot think of any. Biggs fought all except for Holyfield aswell. Pinklon Thomas didn't fight Lewis.

Not really Twinkle, and to be fair the only time Witter has truly stepped up was Judah. And he was beaten easily.

Bradley wasn't a step up and he still beat him easily.

The only time he's risen to the occasion is against Viv Harris, I don't count a faded Corley as a landmark victory, despite the belt. .

Anyway Witter's not the topic in hand, it's those fighters who keep getting a shot. I mentioned McCullough, and to be fair his were at least a few years apart. Someone mentioned Golota, who else?

He's had bloody hundreds of them hasn't he....Is it about 10 years since he fought Naz? Might be more than that actually, and he is still reasonably competitive.

Kevin Kelly had a few as well...

He should be a decent test for Klassen, but I'm a big fan of his, he looks so sharp.
