It's not the best form to kick someone while they are (or their friend is) down.

Yeah, it's a bit shitty, search. It's not like Lockett went running from Pavlik - he fought back the whole fight, landed plenty of hard shots on Pavlik - he was just not good enough, but you can't fault his effort.

Is the boxrec schedule being premature or Is Pavlik really going to be sacrificed to Calzaghe?

We'll hopefully hear an announcement & find out what's happening. HBO's Lampley said Calzaghe-Jones is likely.

Premature I think, Pavlik's supposed to be fighting Rubio next. And yeah, it would be stupid to put Pavlik in with JC because JC would make KP look like a one paced plodder. It would be a Lacy-type massacre.

It wouldn't be a Lacy type massacre. Kelly has better size, temperament, accuracy and power than Lacy. Pavlik is a big guy and a big puncher, and we all know how Joe reaches with that straight left - vs Kessler, his legs didn't look strong, and he kept overbalancing, making his head lurch forward. Kelly can try to counter Joe when he does this.
Making 168 will take something from Joe. It will be less than the Joe who beat Lacy and Kessler.
One day Joe's pecking shots might not mean too much vs a heavy hitter.
Pavlik could go for this fight as he will come in with an edge if he moves up in weight and if Joe moves down. One guy gets stronger, the other gets weaker. Pavlik's approaching his prime and Joe is well past his. These are the sort of scenarios where long reigning champs lose.
One problem - I'm not sure the fight is ready for PPV and if not, there may not be enough money in the pot. Kelly needs to fight Rubio fairly quickly - bring the date forward, fight on a different network to bring extar fans in - to give himself more publicity. Another brutal KO will not harm his marketability.
Both guys have a lot of home fans willing to travel. But Joe spent too long locked away, obscure, to have ever truly caught on (read all the articles about ticket sales for Calzaghe-Hopkins) and Arum has not had time to build Kelly into the big American star since he wasn't in full control of things for the Pavlik-Taylor rematch (forced into catchweight immediate rematch) when they had to play to Taylor's tune.
I have a feeling negotiations will be long and hard.
