Mayweather Rumour..

There is a rumour on sherdog that Floyd is going into mma with the UFC and that's why he's announced his retirement. Dana White the president of the UFC has also said he's got a big announcement for later this week. Don't know how much truth there is to this rumour, but it's an interesting topic, especially when you consider Floyd himself has talked about going into mma.

Thoughts?

Why would he do that?

He'd be incredibly stupid to. Do you have a source? Also, where has he personally expressed a desire to go into MMA? I'm sure people are taking a hyped up article which emphasised his friendly relations with Mark Cuban a little too far...

Would certainly be interesting to see. I remember myself and Butch discussing how a boxer would do in MMA very passionately nigh on 5 years ago, and until now a top boxer who is still within his prime years hasn't crossed over.

Id imagine he would go into UFCs lightweight division (which I think is 155.) As good a boxer as he is I see no way in hell that he can win that title which has BJ Penn and Sean Sherk in the top echelons of its division.

BJ Penn would submit Floyd inside 60 seconds. I'd put every penny I own on it.

He'd lose to the first fighter he faces, unless the opponent is totally inept or takes a dive.

This would do wonders for the profile of UFC...... It would generate massive headlines and make some believe that UFC was better than boxing - or else why would the top P4P have swapped over! (Those that don't realise it's about the $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$)...

He doesn't need the fame, isn't short of money, and he won't be overly keen on the risk. No deal.

Signing with the UFC as a promoter. I think it has nothing to do with Mayweather fighting.

No way Mayweather will fight in UFC.

I saw signs in the Hatton fight that what used to come so easy is now becoming harder and less enjoyable. He has done the right thing in retiring although I'm not convinced he can resist the DLH dollars. Certainly keep away from Cotto though.

Griffin is a tough guy, but I expect Rampage to win. Griffin beat Shogun Rua in his last fight who many people thought was the best light heavy in the world. Griffin is a big light heavy as well, he's about 6'4. Worth watching, definitely.

Can UFC top the $30mill he'd get for DLH?

Nope. And the risk is much greater, not that I think Mayweather couldn't batter the UFC guys.

Does Dana White tell his roster the news before the public, I doubt it. Although I also doubt Mayweather will be joining UFC, I'd say he's more likely to progress his record interests and maybe try his hand at acting.
