Oscar De La Hoya's last Fight Date Announced

It's all over for Oscar De La Hoya on December 6 of this year. That is the date being reserved for De La hoya's farewell fight on HBO Pay Per View. Richard Schaefer the CEO for De La Hoya's Golden Boy Promotions has confirmed the date to ESPN.

The fight will be held in Los Angeles or Las Vegas, and Schaefer tells ESPN: "This will be Oscar's career finale, and we want to make it a big, big event."


Although a challenger for De La Hoya's last bout is yet to be determined, Schaefer indicated that a fight with Miguel Cotto is a possibility if Cotto can get past his next challenge on July 26 when he faces off against Antonio Margarito.

Schaefer also indicated that De La Hoya won't be fighting Ricky Hatton.


I am 100% sure he will avoid Cotto if Cotto beats Margarito - he will avoid margarito regardless!

He will surely want to end his career with a win.

So a low risk opponent like Ricky Hatton would be perfect!

On paper he should have an L rather than a W after the Sturm fight, but he should have wins rather than losses next to his name when it comes to the second Mosley fight, the fight with Tito and a lot of people (not me) felt he beat Floyd.

The man is a legend.

Cotto will muller him if they fight in december. Although interestingly I see Cotto having problems with Margarito, big problems.

It will be interesting to see how strong the former lighweight is against one of the strongest welters

I was going to make this point. Fighters can't win - they have no or very few L's and they ducked everyone and then get slagged for losing a few fights, ALL against Hall of famers.

I just cannot understand anyone having a coherent reason for being critical of Oscar de la Hoya's career. Olympic Gold Medal, he's got the best CV of anyone since Leonard, and OK, he lost a few fights, but they were close, against greats and in some cases, brilliant fights. The first fight with Shane remains the best techical fight I have ever seen.

Coupled with that, he kept boxing going in the post-Tyson era - without him, the sport really could have shrivelled more than it did.

He is now promoting some of the best fights in boxing (interesting how all of his former victors are now either shareholders in Golden Boy or happy to have him as their promoter, showing that DLH himself is obviously a maganimous chap).

The twice I've met him, he was as nice as pie.

I do hate the fact my wife fancies his though.

I didn't think he looked that good in fish nets!

And De La Hoya's been a class act all the way through his career and win or lose the names on his resume bear testament to that.

And the only guy who's beaten De La Hoya convincingly was a big middleweight in Hopkins.

The guy's been a great torch-bearer for the sport at the time we've had to suffer through a moribund heavyweight division and whether they lost or beat him, his opponents probably earnt money they'd only have dreamed of fighting any other champion.

He came back from a lengthy lay-off and only just lost to Mayweather and that fight, plus the Tito and both Mosley fights, were bouts ODLH can quite rightly say he didn't feel like he was the loser even if he did end up on the wrong side of the division.

And so what if he didn't give Quartey a rematch. What did Quartey do after that fight to warrant one? And it was ODLH who knocked down and had the Bazooka all over the place in the last round.

I'm not one for blowing smoke up anyone's backside but overall boxing could do with a few more Oscar De La Hoyas.

A stellar career and from what I've seen over the years, a classy guy in and out of the ring.

It will be a sad day when he retires.

If your going down that road he should have losses against Whitaker and Quartey. No way he beat Mayweather
