An interesting fight this friday - I 've never seen Mcdermott but heard good things about it. Heard he is over 6ft - that in itself will pose problems for Elcock. But the thing is McDermott opposition hasnt come close to Elcock's.But thats the thing with an unbeaten record - you just never know how good a fighter is until he steps up. He could rise to the challenge or end up being exposed. I rate Elcock though and you've have to make him the favourite based on experience. Anyone seen McDermott in action?

macca is a bargain-basement Pavlik, 6'1 middleweight, throws about 80 mainly straight punches a round and comes forward non-stop. either way i would bet on a stoppage on friday night, because either Elcock will be gradually pummeled into submission or he'll take macca's head off with counters like he did Steve Bendall.

like you say experience/etc the tangible stuff favours elcock

however i wonder if the intangibles don't favour mcdermott- tom p tells me elcock has always struggled with tall, long-armed fighters in the gym, and also that macca has had some outstanding sparring, and a great variety of it, for this fight.

macca may be rusty, though, he's had 1 fight and a virtual walkover at that in the past 12-14months or so, elcock's been busier in the last year.

i predict a great fight and a stoppage but to who? i would only bet on it if you had a gun to my head.

Anyway, think Macca will do it. I've changed my opinion on who will win several times in the last week (never mind the last four years) but think this is the challenger's time. I don't doubt Wayne will be out to make a statement but Macca is fresher, fitter and his long, raking punches will take him to the title.

Although he hasn't fought the stellar names Elcock has, Darren has always done what's asked of him against the likes of Halder, Rhodes and Monaghan. You can't ask for more than that. I was in London when he drew with Gokhan Kazaz, 2004, and thought he was very unlucky. He dominated rounds two, three and four. It hasn’t held him back.

Watch for McDermott to sicken the champion with body punches.

Cheers guys sounds like the fights going to be a cracker! If its half as good as Oakey-Francis everyone will go home happy.

I got the Oakey/Francis fight right although I didnt have it by KO I must admit. No way am I going to pick the winner here. Very close on points I think but the KO isnt out of the question.

Looks like this is being moved to wolverhampton the same night.

i've changed my mind now, having stuck with wayne for months home advantage is the last intangible macca needed to make me favour him. I'll be ringside see you there. absolutely can't wait, more excited about this matchup than i have been for years

I think Elcock is on the slide, not sure what his ambition is like now after his world title opportunity.
