Watched a great doc the other night from 1988 covering him, Nigel Benn (fighting Logan and Noel) and Frank Maloney. Found it really interesting.

I was wondering what happened to him? Is he still involved in Boxing?

He's around formulating a new 10 commandments and splitting the sea last I heard.

I noticed him ringside at a recent fight, but i can't remember which one.
He was a guest for a while over on the island, not sure he enjoyed the stay though.

I went to school with his nephew who recently got in touch on Facebook, I'll ask him.

Ambrose was something to do with recent visit by Mike Tyson for some of those dinner shows.

Ambrose is a Nobble, Had some good ideas. Use to enjoy his company it was how he tried to impliment those ideas was the problem

A profile here including some history for what its worth. The stuff about Lennox is definitely wrong. There is also quite a bit on him in Frank Maloney's autobigraphy.

He never really liked me in school either

My old chum did respond in the end to say Mendy does still have some involvement in boxing but is now more involved as a football agent bringing African players over here and making a few quid.

Well Mendy was never short on ideas on how to get a few quid - even though some of those ideas would cut corners and come into conflict with the law.

I met him a few times when I was in my late teens and when he first appeared on the boxing scene. I found him to be an articulate fella with an easy charm who asked plenty of questions. Even then there were stories circulating about him - which you have to take with a pinch of salt as you're hearing it 4th or 5th handed.

Wasn't he originally a football agent? I seem to remember that he came into boxing on the back of being prominant in the 'black pack' (not my terminology) group of footballers that was centred around Wimbledon F.C. Justin Fashanu, Vinnie Jones and Dennis Wise being more famous members.

He was in Vegas for Hatton v Urango. I heard he was trying get in with Dennis Hobson. I last saw him trying charm his way into an upgrade at the airport for the flight back...

i've met this man many many times over at boxing shows and he was nothing but a gent but aint seen him for a few years

He is still on the edge of boxing and recently did some work for Dennis Hobson and last night promoted one of the nights when Tyson was over.

Did a great job with Nigel Benn, pulling off some great stunts and engineered Paul Ince's move from West Ham even if the picture of the player in a United shirt before he moved wasn't his greatest bit of PR.

If he hadn't had one or two problems along the way he may well have become Britain's answer to Don King

That was the term used back then. Not a racial epiphet conjured from my imagination. As I remember he and group of predominantly black footballers used to go out to nightspots together. I don’t know whether the term was engineered by the man himself or by someone else. But I could have a good guess about it.

Thanks for informing me of Wise’s and Jones’ skin colour and what Wimbledon were called – I obviously wasn’t aware of either.

I didn’t know he was behind Paul Ince’s move from West Ham tbh – but as Ince is a cousin of Nigel Benn some things begin to make sense.

He left Ince out to dry when that photo came out.
