Does anyone know is the John Duddy fight on tv this weekend????

Whats do you guy's all think of him, I reckon he's fearless, strong and defense a bit dodgy. World Champion in waiting.....??

Definitely the best Irish hope of a World Champion belt at the moment, not sure what would happen in regards to a Pavlick fight… It would be mighty tough for Duddy.

He should go IBO. he can become a world champ there.

Theres no doubt that Duddy an entertaining fighter, stands t2t and throws punches.

He can make serious box office money... but not fighting the big boys at the top.

So a second rate world belt should see him fight world top 10 - 30, but be great fights.

He has good offesne but his defence is pretty poor. He stands a punchers chance but I think Pavlik will destroy him. I believe he's mandatory for his WBC title now that Lorenzo lost.

Yeah, I agree with Emerson, good offence, bad defence, mega solid chin.

Yeah he’s mega entertaining to watch, and I reckon we should give him more credit for that.

At least we can say his fight this weekend will be good to watch.

Does anyone know what channel, if any the fight is on??? Cant wait to watch it, I reckon that Duddy will be really impressive to make amends of his last poor performance.

It is unlikeky that duddy will become champion in the next 3 years maybe after that. I think Lee is our best prospect as a champion, just watched one of his fights again and altough ,he wasnt fighting the best of opposition, he dosent get hit like duddy cant seem to avoid punches I suppose its in built in his style.

still thought it was a shame he never got the pavlik fight.

duddy would have got whipped.

but he would have put up a better resistance than lockett did.

the last fight he had, i thnk the guys name was smichet? french canadian and he got tagged so many times byt huge punches it was sickening. I would truely worry about his health if he got into the right with a big puncher like pavlik. he would most likely take his head clean off.

Sorry to ask such a stupid question but is it going to be live? Its not like delayed action or something? Cause if its a slow and delayed link I might as well wait till the morning than get up in the middle of the night to watch it

I reckon Paul McCloskey has a much better chance of winning a World title than Duddy, I fancy McCloskey to do a number on Nigel Wright .

Duddy, Lee, Macklin, McCloskey, Dunne, Andrew Murray surely one of them will win a World title one day , and if not we've 5 Olympians coming through in Darren Sutherland, Ken Egan, David Oliver Joyce, John Joe Nevin and Paddy Barnes .

I reckon Sutherland could make a very good middleweight as a pro, his style is perfect for it .


But back to Duddy, has all the heart and courage in the World, tremendously fit and a chin of iron . However his defence his porous and his power isn't that great at the highest level . He should blow Howe away but he will be lucky to even win a version of the World title never mind the real thing . It would be a great shame if he was never to win a World 'title' or the European though , because he at least deserves at .

I think its John Joe Joyce and not David Oliver Joyce, sorry to correct you. Out of that bunch I reckon John Joe Joyce and Patrick Barns don’t have as much of a chance than that of the others. The one thing about Sutherland is his chin, apparently. Egan is the Dublin favourite, could have a good pro career if managed correctly. The one that stands out to me is John Joe Nevin. He qualified at his first opportunity to do so, Sutherland, Egan and Joyce qualified at the last attempt. Nevin is a crafty boxer, and ideally suited to picking up points from tough scoring judges. Billy Walsh was on RTE Radio last Saturday or Friday, not sure which, but he was saying that Nevin was not on top of his game and there was a little doubt whether he would win gold, but in the end he did. I reckon he steps up on the big stage and from what I heard training isn't his strongest point, not that I'm saying he's a bad trainer. I've a lot of time for Nevin and will keep a keen eye on him.

Big Ears from what I read on box rec but more on boards you make a lot of sense and I agree with you on a lot of things. I dont always leave comments because I dont always have time, but you couldn't be more right about Duddy in the sense that he has all the heart and courage in the world, it will be such a shame if he doesn't pick up some type of world title over the next few years. Man I hope he wins something, great irish export, he's so popular in the States, but the main thing was a gusty fighter

It is indeed John Joe Joyce, so many of those Joyce's are successful boxers .
A lot of people are fancying Nevin to do the best due to his amateur style but the draw the 5 fighters get will dictate their finishing position every bit as much as the quality of the fighters themselves(as tbh most of them are at around the same level) .

I don't fancy any of them to get gold really, only Barnes even made the quarter-finals of the World Championships and he's probably the most inconsistent of the lot . Sutherland did lose to the Silver medal winner so he can be forgiven for not getting further, like Barnes he is inconsistant but he is a genuine top 10 middleweight and if he gets the right draw and is on form he can medal .

Egan is hugely experienced and like Sutherland a genuine top 10 fighter

I've seen Joyce fight a few times but I'm probably best not to comment on him, I'll probably be describing one of his brothers

On very positive thing is that Sutherland, Egan and Nevin won gold at the EU Championships recently . Egan and Sutherland beat two fellow Olympic qualifiers in Tony Jeffries(UK) and James DeGale(UK) respectively . Sutherland had lost to Degale in the first Olympic qualifiers but had beat him previously to that .

Unfortunately taking into account our poor performance at the World Championships and needing until the 3rd European qualifiers to get the final 3 of our men through, I think there is a strong chance we won't medal at all .
But if one of them is to medal it's anyones guess who it'll be .
