Undecided whether to go, but part of me wants to just to say I've seen Roy fight. Depends who's covering it for BBN. I'm not prepared to pay over inflated ticket prices. Interesting that no-one is promoting it.

BRILLIANT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I thought my trip to vegas in Sept was ruined by the retirement of PBF & subsequently pullin out of a bout with ODLH!!!!

But this way i get to see another modern day legend RJJNR!!!!

Great fight but Roy beats JC i'm afraid!!!

"Calzaghe, 36, and Jones, 39, are set to co-promote their showdown which could be the final fight for both greats"

This fight will be a slap in the face to people who want to see a decent fight. 12 rounds guaranteed, no one knocked down.

Poor stuff.

If Joe wins, anyone for Calzaghe vs Mike McCallum? Could have it at cruiserweight if McCallum can no longer make the weight. Both fighters can feel free to go to GBP and HBO for help promoting it.

I would have thought Iran Barkley or perhaps even old Sugar Boy Malinga would be the next match up for Calzaghe, assuming he wins on points.

Unlikely. Enzo said he's not a credible opponent.

Jones isn't as washed up as people think - his heart wasn't into boxing when KO'ed to Tarver and Johnson. I reckon he's going to be up for this.

If that is the case, we should be in for a cracking night of action

Yeah, he was having problems with his dad during Tarver 3. Didn't want his dad to get all the credit so he lost on purpose!

The obvious bout is Eubank II next.

Yes, and Foreman was drugged, same as Klitchko, and Duran was genuinly ill during the second SRL fight and hadnt gone anywhere near a steak

I too think this could be a risky nights work for Calzaghe .. especially if he makes it at lt-heavy.
Joe doesn`t have a punch to really bounce Jones .. and Roy Jones has a lifetime of experience to deal with a swarming slapping Calzaghe.

I like most would prefer he put it all on the line against Pavlik .. a win win situation regardless of outcome in the eyes of real fight fans.

Absolutely he loses to Pavlik - we'll he is 36 and over the hill, wins well he's beaten the next superstar.

Of course though, with the lay fans that he is taking an "everything to lose" fight makes him "harder".

Theres only 3 years between them, maybe Joe will get old and RJJ will turn back the years. I'd like to see RJJ go out on a high note. RJJ still shows the fastest hand speed I've seen its just now his workrate is so low and his movement has gone. RJJ may have changed his style to fight as an old man and got used to it.

What I have been shocked with Jones since his return back to Light Heavy is his power has completely gone. His speed, even if he has lost a bit, is still up there with his contemporaries - but whe you see Ajamu just walk through Jones' shots and press him back - even with Jones picking him off nicely - then its a huge concern.

The only time he looked quite powerful, was when he fought a bulked up Welter..... and even then I don't think Trinidad was near being stopped.

Its hard to compare the 2008 RJJ workrate with that of 10 years ago... because 10 years ago he had the power to dictate the fight on his terms - and its is so much easier to go 12 rounds when your in control.... now, even though he has won confortably, he isn't in CONTROL of the action. He looked his best since his return in beating Trinidad, in terms of workrate - why? Cause he could control the centre of the ring and had a big edge in strength.

I only saw the Tito fight, I felt if RJJ stepped through the gears Trinidad would have gone. Its just there isnt those gears for him to change into it seems, he shows flashes of brilliance but they remain flashes. The power has detoriated though, this could be the athletic springing punches RJJ used to throw are just too energy consuming or going down from HW, getting old or coming off roids (which isn't proven) just lost him his man strength.

The main things going for him against Calazage is:

1. Calazage isnt a puncher any more
2. Calazage is getting on himself
3. Calazage gives him loads of countering opportunities

And those things make the fight a little interesting. And the fact RJJ may have 1 last performance in him left

I actually think we're going to see a really poor performance by Joe.

All it takes is a slick/crafty counter puncher and he looks a different fighter.

Roy Jones is definitely going to get chances to counter Joe - I reckon Jones could nick this.

I think Jones is too authodox in his approach though, he likes to lead, he likes the left jab.

The blueprint for beating Joe is remakably simple... and I do find it really hard to fathom why fighters don't adopted it.

Lead with the straight right hand, follow up with the left hook... fight authodox and do that.

Robin Reid won in my eyes, but even if you didn't think he won - he is fairly limited and showed the way. Richie Woodhall to some degree confirmed that, but ultimately didn't have the legs or the strength to do it for the 12 rounds. Hopkins, Bika and Kessler also showed it - Hopkins just tired (not enough to lose IMO), Calzaghe changed his approach vs Kessler (although I scored it a draw) and well Bika I aint sure what he was thinking - he would win a round and then just not bother with the right hand for the next two.

The rest of Joe's opponents haven't bothered with the STRAIGHT right hand. It was Charles Brewer's pet punch and I thought if Brewer could take Joe's punches (which I didn't at the time) then I thought he would win. Brewer could take the shots but would be winging away with these crosses which were no use.

I think Roy was (and possibly still is) a better athlete, quicker, hits harder, more accurate and with a greater variety than Hopkins. What I don't think he is (compared to Hopkins) is a master stratergists. Jones fighting a crap strategy would have been too much for Joe in his prime, he's just was too good -but nowadays... he needs to adopt the blueprint... and I don't think he will.

How did you score Kessler v Calzaghe a draw - even Kessler knew he was beat.

I've discussed my card many times in the archives here. I think it was my first round which differed with ALOT of posters who scored it 7-5 to Joe. Although other posters I know scored that round for Mikkel.

As I said, my card was only one round out from a good many respectable posters. I think if you do a "worst case scenerio" for Joe and tally up the rounds in which respectable posters (seperately) - I think it was 7-5 Kessler. If you make a worst case scenerio for Kessler then it was 9-3 to Joe. Just my card I gave 6 of the 7 worst cases to Mikkel.

I thought the actual cards were way out, as in my opinion, they were for the Bika fight and that one card in the Hopkins fight.
