That a mistake if you ask me

He is still a baby.

His youth and the fact that he is a heavyweight means he is proabbly gonna take the Roman Greenburg approach

So dissapointing if true.

No doubt Price will go pro after Beijing, clearing the way for Fury to become Englands number 1 Super Heavy.
He should spend at least another two years amateur, build a reputation internationaly, and more importantly, compete against the top, top class amateurs out there.
2 years fighting the best amateurs in the world in international meets and at major competitions will make hima much better fighter.

With thr right guidance, he could have probably been a star at 2012.
Superheavyweight fighting in his homeland, with his name, and his background...the media would have effing loved it!

Exactly@yiddo

At least wait for the worlds if he doesnt want to wait for 2012

Bt who knows, he may have a style way more suited to the professional game. Not seen a second of him to be honest just heard good things

At 19 going into the big bad world of heavyweights…. I think it’s a mistake. I reckon he should have definitely stay amateur till the London 2012 games. Like someone else said with a name like that after potentially winning a medal in the heavyweights in front of a home crowd… its silly turning pro that early. He would be massiv e box office able to demand what he wanted if he medaled in London 2012.

I don’t think people realize that amateurs get a nice little grant to keep them going, particular so if you’re a good amateur which clearly Fury is. The grant plus local sponsorship, plus being away with different training camps were it is all expenses paid for that time your away, means that good amateurs can live a comfortable life while wearing their countries vests.

I wish the lad all the best and hope to see him on the TV soon, but before he actually turns pro, I hope he’s thought it fully through, but good luck to the lad.

yeah agree with that.

2012 is gonna be such a big deal.

it's worth waiting it out.

it's not like he's mid 20's already is it.

pro's aren't easy.

Tyson had Cus D'Amato, Floyd Patterson, Kevin Rooney and Jose Torres on the boxing front, Jim Jacobs and Bill Cayton on the business end.

Tyson Fury has Gypsy John Fury and allegedly..............

By 2012, Fury will probably have progressed to.... Commonwealth level?

Its a mistake if true I am afraid.

How many amateur bouts has he had now? less than 20 I think - he is a baby of a heavy with a completely different build and style to Tyson - he would have benefited from growing and learning in the vest.

As someone has already said he could become a Greenberg-esque nonentity if he is fed 20-30 stiffs in the next 3 - 4 years.

Instead he could have been learning in internationals against the worlds best amateurs.

Exactly, people dont realise the money good and I mean good amateurs earn. If he did well in say the next worlds champions any company would love to team up with a guy called Tyson Fury, very good marketing potential. I think the majority of people here agree that he should wait just a while till the pro ranks.

I don't think it is a mistake at all.

Price has more of a style suited to the amateur game - Fury can fight now! There is no need
to stay in the amateurs beating up the same men domestically over and over again when he
can go forward and win a British title - he is that good in my opinion.

Some fighters mature earlier than others - Fury is big enough now, can box and can punch - I would
agree with staying amateur if his physique still had to develop but isn't he something like 18 stones?

Fury will do really well - I'm really excited about watching him cut a swave through the pro ranks.

As for the ABA - it has more self serving, politically inclined hacks than the former East German communist politburo.
Ask Matthew Grainger who won 3 ABA titles about being picked on merit? They have made it plain if you
read the MEN article that the ABA have a big problem in picking Fury because he has already represented Ireland
and I don't blame him in not trusting 4 years of his life in the hands of the biased, political hacks who
run the English ABA.

If it's true, I would love to know the figures.
Buncey said recently that he was offered a slice of this kid - in return for £100,000 !
Over to you, Buncey. Can you elaborate ?

There's plenty of other Baby HW's out there for Fury to batter his way through.

As far as the grants go, are they not only dished out to a select few that make it in to the team, and at that there is a sliding scale based on household income etc. I know we had issue getting money for some Irish AMA's that had made the High performance team a few years back.

After Fury tried to go to the Irish squad etc he has burnt his bridges with the GB squad and therefore really has no other option now but to go Pro. Also 4 yrs is a long time to wait and your not guarnteed a spot either.
