I just watched a Superfights* i had recorded which happened to be Darren Corbett against Bruce Scott and i wondered how he ended his career.
Imagine my surprise to find out he's fighting in a couple of weeks in Dublin. He hasn't fought in 4 years so i'm surprised its shown to be at Cruiserweight. This surely can't be a good idea, he's only fought 5 times since the 90's.

Does anyone know the story behind this?

I also watched in amazement at the fights against Noel Magee and Chris Okoh on superfights the other night - wasnt it fuuckin great entertainment - some character - I wonder if he was disciplined and could shed all the fat what he would have been like - he probably could have got down to middleweight.

I never saw any of his fights pre Ray Kane but I is amazing to think that he was 250lb against Dennis Bailey!!!

I cant wait ot see what he is like in Dublin - I'll take a camera and get a few photos

I remember watching Corbett-Okoh in the pub and blokes were just shaking their head at what seemed like a ridiculous mismatch. Okoh looked an athlete and Corebtt a drinker. I liked his victory dance too.....

Corbett. Announced a few years back that he'd signed with Maloney.

but he's fighting in Dublin next week on the Bernard Dunne undercard!

When you said about what he like - I just thought he was a guest or something, not fighting.

I watched Corbett years ago up at Sunderland against Steve Garber..........................I thought Garber won easily. I wonder what BN reported at the time?

Corbett used to go a overboard when he decked someone, give it a stand over them and wobble his legs, sometimes came over as a bit of a loadmouth, but as soon as the fights were over he was a gentleman to his opponent. Think he just got so hyped up before a match. Always seemed a decent guy when interviewed after a match.

He certainly brought the crowds out when he boxed, i think injury and a lack of motivation held him back, he was at one time lined up to challenge Tony Oakey, for the WBU title.
Darren has been involved with coaching amatuers, and has mooted a comeback a few times, maybe this proposed fight will happen.

which club is he at/train at?

Corbett was to the 90's what Rogan is to the present era. A decent entertaining puncher who will always pull off the odd good win but a long way from top level. That win over Okoh was a good n though, The "bad mamma jamma" was getting quite the build up from Maloney at the time and to be fair he looked a decent fighter.

Corbett was an entertainer and could punch, he had an 11 second win in the US when he fought over there.
Good wins over Magee, Okoh looked to have moved him up well in the ratings, and he was leading against Scott before getting caught and stopped. He never quite recovered after that loss.
I remember his last fight ended a bit oddly after he was caught by a shot to the throat.

Very good amatuer was Darren. Won alot of those fights by KO or stoppage.

Barry Hearn and Joe Frazier both wanted him when he was going to turn pro.

darren corbetts worse enmey is himself . everytime his management team sets him up for a title shot he does something thinking to outsmart them and he outsmarts himself .
