Tony Dodson fights in Italy tonight

The card will be screened live on Eurosport tonight at 7:45pm.

Here is an article on Dodson:
SUPER-MIDDLEWEIGHT puncher Tony Dodson hopes he’s playing a safe hand tonight when he returns to action inside Europe’s biggest casino.

The 27-year-old former British champion fights for the first time in 10 months at the Casino di Campione, situated in the Italian tax haven of Campione on the shores of Lake Lugano.

This will be Dodson’s first fight since he signed with Haymaker Promotions, and he will meet Frenchman Mounir Sahli in the ring over six rounds.

The 31-year-old from Cannes carries an inconsistent 8-11 professional record, but he is a recognised puncher.

“At this stage in my career I am not taking anyone lightly,” offered Dodson, whose own career has been dogged by injury ever since his all-too-brief British title reign back in 2003.

“This is my second chance of making something of my boxing career. I want that British title back and this fight is the first step in making that happen.”

With head coach George Scholfield still travelling back from Australia, following Geard Ajetovic’s disappointing IBO title points defeat last Friday, former world champion Shea Neary will be the main man in Dodson’s corner.

However, that’s something that both men are looking forward to.

Dodson adds: “Having someone like Shea just in the gym when you’re working is a total pleasure. So to have that man as a sparring partner and number two in the corner is priceless.

“We’ve been working on a few things in the gym and he’s had me on my weight all weekend, rather than just for the day of the fight, and I think that’s helped get me focused.

“Now I am just looking forward to getting back in the ring and pushing forward with my career.”

Neary said: “What can I say about Tony? He’s had more second chances in boxing than any fighter I’ve ever known. What he has to do now is take this chance because there won’t be any more.

“He has the ability to win back that British title but it’s up to him now. He’s got to want this more than anything.

“But right now he’s in great shape and is looking really sharp in the gym. As long as he listens over in Italy and uses his boxing to get the job done, rather than standing and fighting, then we should have a good trip.”

On a side note, shame BRITISH Eurosport are not showing the bill on Sat night.from Spain (all othr Eurosport versions are).. could have been a good apitiser for Torres vs Holt.

Why do British Eurosports exectives think we'll be more interested in Volleyball than Boxing.

Dodson is one of David Hayes signings for Hayemaker promotions.
Tony said he was getting a very decent payday out of this fight in Italy

Dodson won on points over six in a scrappy fight that never really ignited. Dodson won every round for me. Sahli was a very negative fighter and is hard to look good against, he caught Tony occasionally on the counter but mostly grabbed when in close. Generally, it was Dodson advancing and trying to make a fight of it. He looked a bit rusty which should be expected, could have thrown more bodyshots and definitely needs to be more active but a win is a win and he got the rounds in. He is still only 27 I think.

a decent performance from tony, definately shaking off the ring rust, got caught a bit too often with short sharp uppercuts for my liking. the opponent was a durable fella.

A defence of his Super Middle Title, or a challenge to the Light Heavy one (would Peter Haymer still be that champion?).

Dodson v Oakey would be a decent scrap.

Na its vacant at the moment Peter relinquished it...
Think it would be a good fight Haymer vs Dodson..

He did say that he was offered more money to fight in Italy than on the sportsnetwork show.
Due to appear on the September Hayemaker show at the O2
