I have recently been doing some background research on MMH and have seen footage of some of his early fights, where he did. I'll get details if you want to know which ones...

Just done a quick check in the files and I can find one picture (not footage) of him fighting although it is in his amateur days. I'll check out the footage later.

I noticed a coule of posters omitting the Marvellous before Marvellous Marvin Hagler's name. Not only does that make him mad, but I believe it to be incorrect - hasn't he changed his name legally to Marvellous Marvin Hagler?

Would love to see his passport.

I read somewhere, "Ring" magazine I think, that the Marvelous One did indeed have hair at the start of his pro career. Never seen him with an Afro though

Hagler, like Earnie Shavers, had hair in his early career but started going thin and opted for the shaved look.

I've seen an old shot of Marv with hair, and he didn't have much of it. Which must have pissed him off a little, as near every self respecting 70's fighter was strutting around with a magnificent 3 foot afro.
Then along came his saviour.....Kojak - and who loves ya baby? Marv does, cause Telly gave the bald look instant credibility. That's probably when he shaved it off.

Used to be the earliest footage you could see of Marv was Cyclone Hart in 76. I've never seen any of his early defeats. Anyone seen earlier than that?

The sporting world's first bald superstar??

I would absolutely love to see a picture of the Marvellous one with hair. I had never considered he once had some.

According to his trainer Goody Petronelli, Marvin started shaving his head right after he won the national AAU championships in 1973.
He said Hagler walked in the gym with the bald dome and asked Petronelli how he liked it.
Goody said he was surprised because Marvin had a good head of hair.
Petronelli talks about it in the book "In the Corner".

So it wasn't true that "hair was scared to grow on Hagler's head"?

Just picked up the new book FOUR KINGS, by George Kimball, and it starts off like it could be a really excellent one. All about the big four of the 80's.
And what do you know, there's an old shot of Hagler in there with hair - so old that he's not sure how he should be holding his hands up for a boxing pose.
He shaved it off while still an amateur around 73.

Interesting take on the early years for all four - first time Marv crossed paths with Ray Leonard, he was fighting as an unknown on a card that Ray headlined - Marv got $1000 while Ray got $50000. So unknown that his local paper refered to him as Marvin Nagler.

His opponent that night was....Roy Jones sr.
