I agree he has put up some British boxing gems on youtube - great stuff

I remember the night terrific atmosphere we were sat next to Sykes lot . Think a lot of people lost money that night betting on Sykes.

Sykes used to live about 2 streets away from me when I was growing up in Wakefield (Lupset estate)

Pretty rough area at the best of times, but Syskey was always a bit of a loose canon. He used to stumble home from the boozer with a six pack in his hands singing "I am the Lion of this county".

He could be a bit of bully when drunk (God help you if he caught you with your hands in your pockets). Very intelligent fella when sober.

It was a real shame the way his life turned out. He died a few years ago in a very bad state. Banned from entering the city centre and basically homeless.

There was a great documentary about him, which can be found on you tube.

neville was on top of the british tree...struggled againt americans ricky kellar and leroy boone ..shame.... he should have got the bruno fight but was way too seasoned for young frank at that stage

i just meant it would have been good for brunos people to go for the british title...they kept him away from seasoned pros until finally letting him loose on eckland for the euro crown but that was way down the line

Just going back to Sykes, he wrote a book called Sweet Agony. this book is a collectors item. Ive had a few of them bought them and sold them on ebay. do you know the book was about £3 when it came out but now its worth around £90 now in good condition. I bought one for £17 and sold it for £70, i bought another for £40 and sold it for £97. keep your eye out for it only 10,000 printed i think and im guessing lots of people in Wakefield bought it but as years have gone by they have become tatty or thrown away.

ive got a copy in absolutely mint condition. make me an offer i can't refuse and i wont!

This is like a bad trip. Thank God for Bruno, who who didn't even bother with these boys and the British title.

Is it a good read?

Its a great read, Sykes was a very articulate guy. What does come across strongly in the book is the fact that he was a sex maniac! And he liked schoolies................................
