Super-middleweight boxer Carl Froch faces more frustration in his quest for a shot at the vacant WBC title as his bout against US star Jermain Taylor is thrown into doubt amidst a cash row.

Froch hit back at claims from his rival that he is not well known enough to fight in the States. Speaking to Setanta Sports News during Steve Bunce's Boxing Hour he said: “I disagree. I think myself and Jermain Taylor is a massive fight, especially in Britain . And it's got high expectations in America as well.

"Taylor's a marketing fighter, I‘m a marketing fighter in Britain . If we get it on, on either side of the Atlantic, I think it's a big fight."

With the two boxers so far apart on money it seems likely that Jermain Taylor will take on Jeff Lacy, a move that has been condemned by Froch.

“I'm surrounded by fighters and opposition that keep bottling it.

“Jeff Lacy hasn't fought anybody since he got floored by Calzaghe. He hasn't done anything since then. He's not a big name. They think Lacy's an easier fight than I am.

“I agree with them. But the fact is I'm the number one contender with the WBC and Jermain Taylor's next in line.”

It must be very frustrating for froch .. and hes not getting any younger .. I`d hate it if he only achieved what Witter did - A very short reign as a belt holder :-?

Time to get himself a promoter who can get him fights
Being mandatory contender only means something if it suits the promoter

Shame Froch never built on his win over Porras in the US, i thought that might lead to more dates over there, but since then he's had 8 fights , and 6 of those have been in Nottingham. Not going to get him noticed state side.

I can understand his frustration, after all the pull outs in his last fight, it just seems he's not going to get that shot at Taylor, maybe he can go down the WBA route if Mundine gives up his title, but it means more wasted time.

This is boxing, you get home fighters and you get opponents
Froch will never be brought in as an opponent because he is too dangerous. The only way for good fighters to get work as opponents is if they generate a lot of money.
The home fighter is happy to take a risky fight is the money is there
Froch fails on both fronts.
The only way he will get a shot at his peak is to sign with a promoter who is willing/capable of putting him on as the home fighter

He needs to take super short money to push the fight. If he knocks out Jermaine Taylor- which i think he would- in America tehre will be a clamouring for him to fight Pavlik in what will be another humdinger and a fight that could net him millions

Auto where are you!

I said Hennessey lacks the punch on the world scene and this just proves it - Froch will have to play the rankings game like every Hennessey fighter before him - The end result is, he may become stagnant.

It blows really, and I feel sorry for Froch - I just hope his best times are not being wasted waiting around.

I'm not arguing with that.

He is the number one contender now, how can he play the game any more??

Glad you said it @ sweet science. That was on my mind as well

I know he isn't perfect, but he does like a ticket seller and Froch could probably do a 8-10,000 venue in and around the Nottingham area if promoted properly

He has had his injuries but that being said, he hasnt fought one even semi top-class fighter in all his time and only has a Commonwealth and British title belt to his name

I think he and allegedly have had ill words but then once he sees £ signs allegedly could teach Jesus a thing or two about forgiveness.

When his contract is up he should leave, provided of course that eh is wanted

At his age, I think a 3 year contract with Haymaker makes more sense than Wazza.
That is of course, if any other Promotor is interested.
Coco is on the money.
Meaty Mick can't generate enough to make the pounds shillings and pence add up, and while ever that remains the situation Froch is going nowhere.
Boxing is a business - no longer a sport.
If the maths add up the fight will happen, if the maths don't .........

Fair comment Fatboy - but I will also eat my shit if staying with Hennessy proves to be a good move.

And?? That is almost exactly the same situation Joe Calzaghe was in (minus the Commonwealth title) before he got his chance against Collins (initially) and then Eubank.

Froch needs to be given a chance - you cant batter the kid because people like Inkin or Taylor wont give him a fight.

Admittedly Warren is more likely to get Froch a 'title' shot, but I think Froch has higher expectations that 30 defences of the WBO title - and yes, (since Calzaghe has effectively retired from the SM division) I think Froch would rather wait 18 months for a crack at the WBC title then take the offer of an immediate crack at the WBO title by Warren.

By all accounts that is the idea. Hennessey and Froch are genuinely prepared to sacrifice the short term gain (e.g. the payday and home advantage against Taylor) in favour of the long-term rewards (e.g. exposure and a name in America) on the basis that they believe Froch will go to America and smash Taylor.

i watched the interviews on bunce's show yesterday...

taylor's promoter (forget his name) said they had offered Froch more money to fight in the US, than Hennessy had offered for him to come to Nottingham

Froch then went on to say the Notts Arena wasn't big enough, they needed to fight at the City Ground and they couldnt guarentee the weather in the autumn, so he was willing to travel

then he said Hennessy had some 'tricks up his sleeve'

he's not going to get this fight is he!

Nonetheless, Joe Calzaghe had a world title for 8 years. Did his promoter have the clout to get big fights?

It is silly that no one will even fight Froch for a vacant world title.

I dont think Froch is gonna get to fight Taylor - but it wont be through Froch's lack of trying

What if the WBC go to purse bids I assume it would be up to Taylor to walk away?

In all honesty I think that Froch needs to man up and take a short side of the purse because Taylor is more marketable than him and Taylor's name on his record would mean a lot more than vice-verse. I don't see what is in it for Taylor, more difficult fight for less Kudos and less money than he'd get vs Lacy.

But that is really said isn't it, Taylor taking an easy fight vs someone who struggled vs Manfredo. And that HBO will put up money for it. A fight of utter meaninglessness. He should go for that title vs Froch.

Lacy v Taylor should have been the big fight but they both got beaten. Just because they're both "American Olympians." I mean, who cares really - how far did Lacy get in the Olympics?

I agree that Froch should take the short money now.

Go and batter Taylor, and he's a huge star, and even if he loses, providing he isn't annihilated, it's not a disaster for his career. Sometimes a high profile loss is the best thing for a fighter's career. It hasn't done Miranda much harm.

There is talk of Taylor v Lacy for the vacant WBO title.

Maybe short money isn't even an option, the fight might just not be there for him.
The Taylors and the Lacy's of this world would prefer to fight each other for the bigger bucks.
Then when the winner wants an easy first defence they will fight Manfredo, also for big bucks, I don't see how Froch can fit into this equation, unless he finds a promoter willing/capable of putting him on as the home fighter.
No one wanted to fight JC at the start because the money was not there and he would be a very hard fight. He needed a promoter to pull strings to sort things out, which of course FW did.

That's rubbish about "every" Hennessy boxer having to play the rankings game.

Mick got David Walker two good title shots(EBU and British) when there were more deserving challengers ahead.

Anyway, I go with those saying Froch should take the small end of the purse if that's what it takes to get Taylor in the ring with him.

It's sounding a bit iffy now, Di Bella appears to want to have very little to do with Carl, but Hennessy got Eastman his crack at Hopkins when there were posters on this very forum swearing blind the fight would never happen. We'll see....
